LSD and Blue Moon Rocks, indoor grow tent, ebb and flow, 800 w (updated 12/18/11)

Here we go boys and girls. After harvesting my last plants in April 2009 I am finally able to scratch the itch i've had since then. There are ten seeds thus far. Two for each strain. Friday I spent getting the grow area arranged and situated. Then Friday evening I put the seeds in tap water for about 28 hours. So last night I removed them from their soak and placed them in a moist towel to continue the germination process - per here. I noticed this morning that several of the plants have already broken the shell and have taproots poking out. These BOG seeds were purchased in late 2008 thru seedbay. The Reservoir Seeds were bought thru seedbay in early January 2009. They have been kept vacuum sealed in a refrigerator.
I'll probably update this thing weekly with pictures. The date of the most recent update will be in the heading of this thread, after bump it each week. Here's some pictures. This will be a legal grow as i am in compliance with all state and local laws.
I like grow logs with lots of pictures so that's what I intend to do here - a picture log for those who don't care to read anything.
^Germinating on 10/07/11
The lights were actually done a ghetto way. I put in some screws in the ceiling and suspended some shop lights from them. They are suspended by a bunch of zip ties. this makes it super easy for me to adjust the lights as these vegetative plants get bigger. I anticipate that this grow log will evolve and I will add a tent and at least two 400 watt HPS lights. I'll also probably have to get some inline fans and a carbon filter. I was actually thinking of getting two grow tents. One that is 8'x4'x7' to put two flowering trays in there, and then having another one that is 4x4x7 for vegging clones and a mother plant or two or three. we shall see if i get any promising phenotypes out of these plants. I'm starting with ten seeds in anticipating of having to pull two of them or so. Ask if you have any questions.
my first grow my second grow

Ooh, looks nice.

Thanks fellas. Three days in (last night) and ALL of the seeds have cracked open and are ready to be placed in rockwool. It's going better than I had ever hoped it would. 100% germ rate in 48 hours, after two years. So in just a few minutes im going to put them in the rockwool. I imagine tomorrow I will need to put the lights on em.

nothing too much going on here. I'm about to see some green. The lights are on now and the seedlings are looking for it. Tomorrow they should be lookin much better. growth is surprisingly quick thus far. I hope it continues. i started the light this morning at about 10 am. I set the timer to have the light cycle be 6 am to midnight. that's an 18 hour light cycle.

Day 3 above ground! SD
Group Shot before rearranging them
I'll take more pics later. all the sprouts are out of their shells now. The SD's are moving along the quickest and the furthest behind at this point is one of my Sour Bubble's. The difference in growth between the furthest two appears to be a days worth of growth. I've been thinking about adding a 400w mh to this veg cycle. not sure about that though.
up to this point i have been saturating the rockwool cubes each night before bed (when the lights go out) and again in the am when the lights are turned back on. ive just been using tap water. I'm not too sure when to add nutrients so I will have to do a bit of research and get on it in the next week or so.

I think you start adding nutes when the plant has 4 sets of true leaves, and starts branching. Looking good!

A few of mine did that, I wasn't sure if they were actually trichromes or not. Well cool, learn something new daily.

hmmm, these things really haven't grown as much as I would have thought from day 3 to day 8.
FROM MY LAST GROW FOR COMPARISON:
These were the two that were furthest in development up to the points listed.
Day 6
Day 14
I think I will update this again on the 14th day. That'll be wednesday.

Nice work fella's! Looks like all our girls are coming along nicely Wire5. Looks like you'll be able to start feeding nutes soon. Mine are a little bit behind yours. What nutes will everyone be using with their ladies? I've been looking at the Dutch Master range, although I have also considered going organic

Another reason i like a grow log is that it gets me a bit more into other peoples grows and reinvigorates my interest in this plant. It's neat to compare and contrast with other growers who are at the same development level with their plants.
I'm going to use Floranova.

I agree Furrowed. I get bored and I sit here and read these things all night. Curse a late second shift.
And my first feeding will probably just be fish emoulsion maybe some shultz just to get the used to it (and to keep it all on the same schedual). I'll probably also go to the hydroponic store and see what I can pick up to feed them. I'm not sure which one I'll get so I'm completely open to suggestions. I've read a lot of people use the FF ones (though which of the three I should get) and I've heard good things about floranova. I'm looking for something cost effective and not too complex. Don't want to fuck things up yah know.

haha, i wish i could get back into doing that myself, reading all these logs. I look them all over usually though. Fox Farm's Ocean Forest is a good one i see people recommend a lot. IDK jack shit about soil growing, unfortunately.
On 10/24/11 I upped the PPM's from 120 to 260, using floranova's grow formula. Then last night I left the water on all night. It was left on 8 of the ten plants. I've added a water diverter to the tray that is set to water 8 plants. I don't have it on a timer yet. I need a little diverter thing that has ten outlets, rather than the 8 this one has. So I am having to water two of the plants separately after the other 8 are watered. it kinda sucks. So i can't have that. i'll have to get one that has ten outlets.
Overall the little plants are doing pretty well. They have grown a LOT over the last 48 hours or so. I hope they're building up a nice root base. here's the pictures.
Day 14!
A bit of the set up:
Sour D: Right
Left
LSD: Right:
Left:
Sour Bubble: Right:
Left:
Lifesaver: Right:
Left:
BMR: Right:
Left:
That Sour Bubble on the left is growing weird. not symmetrical at all. im not liking it too much.

I must admit it does look a little retarded lol
Other than that, they seem to be coming along great! You might wanna start adding nutes in about a week or so. Your not far behind my plants, and mine have just started running in a nute deficiency. Nitrogen I think Just fed last night with some fish emulsion, hopefully that'll fix em
If not, I'll order another bunch of seeds and do it right this time. I was so impatient so pop em, even though I didn't have all the required equipment. What can I say? I'm impatient lol

I'm keen to see how your heavy duty fruity comes out. I ordered a pack of 10 seeds. They were bloody expensive IMO lol, I hope for your sake as well as mine that they are worth it.

these bitches (hopefully) are looking fabulous! There's only one issue i've seen and it's on the weird plant mentioned above. It's just a little serration of the leaf that is yellow. i wish i could update this more but time is of the essence. these pictures aren't labeled with the plant as im in a hurry to get this done and be gone. sorry, next week's update will be more impressive, im sure of it!
Pictures!

so, i've been thinking today about a grow tent. I must get one soon. for a lot of reasons. i want to provide a completely dark environment for them first of all. then i also want to be able to contain and control the odor (not to mention the light both ways). I can already smell the plants. Sooo, im going to go with a secret jardin darkroom II dr120. it's a 4x4 tent. I've done some measurements in my bedroom and I have what i think is a terrific idea. Simply put, i am goign to put the tent between the black stands that's holding the tray and the tray itself. so the tent will be sitting on the black shelves a few feet off the ground. Obviously i am not going to sacrifice that space for a reservoir so this is my alternative. it should work out. i can't wait to get that all set up. im hoping to do all that in the next week or so. today you're all due for an update so here we go. the nutes have been gradually increasing in concentration up to about 430 ppm now. I've also been thinking about switching this to a flood and drain system. my output manifold only has 8 ports and i need ten. i can easily switch this thing to flood and drain in about 5 minutes if i wanted to. i think i will just to try it. but i need to read up more about the frequency of the waterings with the flood and drain. up to today ive been watering these babies once a day for like 30 minutes at a time. I've noticed a problem on a couple of the plants, mainly the sour bubble plants. i may just get rid of this one in particular. it's growing all funky sideways and is starting to show signs of some kind of malnourishment. I am not too sure what it is and i haven't even looked it up yet. I'll post some pictures of these plants in just a few minutes.

http://www.greners.com/expertadvice/secret-jardin-review.html
That place was the cheapest I found, greners. it was $237 out the door with shipping. however, i called my local place and told them about the price and all that and they matched it and it'll be here Friday. things are looking good!

the discoloration of appearing slightly yellow in the bottom part of the third and fourth row of pictures is due to the light being flipped up on its back and shining thru the leaves from below. no cause for alarm.

been working a lot with my plants this weekend. my buddy is coming over shortly and we're going to go to home depot and actually build a foundation for this tent. right now it's just the frame sitting on top of the black stands ive been using. i was thinking of something like what is in that video above. seems pretty simple.

during the setup process the plants went way too long without a watering. like 36-40 hours or so wihout a watering. They are showing it right now too. the PPM's were bumped up to 710 and im now doing a flood and drain with the plants. though, im not sure if this method will be something i'll use going forward. i may just need a longer hose and continue with the drip system i had been using. took us a bit longer than expected but we got the stand and the tent built plus i added my other 400 watt light. here are some pictures of the process up to this point....

Give that flood and drain some time it'll grow on ya. I like the changes you made to your tent.

I have heard mixed reviews for seedbay. Some have a great experience some do not... I personally would just rather know it's going to be a good experience and order from attitude.

i ordered all these seeds im growing through seedbay. i never had a problem and would definitely recommend them. got some more gear today. got some 8" ducting. im going to run it straight from my central air into the tent. also got more nutes and a 1 minute interval timer.

In hydroton I flood for 30, and let sit for two to three hours while the lights are on, and only flood once during the dark cycle at the half way point.
Some can get away with longer dry time depending on your over all environment. It isn't all that much different from a drip system, other than much less maintenance and never having to worry about a clogged drip line.

gotcha. i need to play with mine to figure it out. i fear it will drain the res faster than the tray will drain out from the overflow. this damn res is only 90Q large.
i'll add that the total cost of that stage setup thing was $53. that included like $15 for 180 wood screws. but that shit is sturdy as fuck. anyway, i connected the ducting and that shit is working wonderfully! heat shouldn't be a problem this grow.

thanks for the comments fellas!
im not too happy with the development this past week, because i neglected the plants to a degree that made itself noticeable. so here is a simple teaser. day 36 i think. i've already learned a lot from this grow. it's being a real pain in the ass with 5 different strains and one nutrient solution. i fear that these plants will all grow at varying rates. two of them, a BMR and a Sour Diesel, are growing really really slow. they are like half the size of the others. but the BMR strain is really dense and compact. it's going to produce some tight buds im thinking.
this is a shot of most of the plants through the tent window. im feeding them at about 870 ppm and am now proud to say im doing a flood and drain set up. im feeding them for 20 minutes at a time 4 times a day. at 12 am and pm and 6 am and pm. they seem to like it. i've had to lower and raise the lights several times to get it just right for the plants. im just really wondering about these runt plants. these others will surely overgrow these two in the next weeks and into the flowering cycle too.

These pictures are from last night, which was day 41. Today is day 42 of vegetative growth. I will probably switch these young fine bitches over to 12/12 in the next few days, perhaps tomorrow. I know that I am going to have to pull one of my Sour Diesel plants as it's not growing right at all. idk what seems to be wrong with it (or me!). I am also fearful I will have to eliminate my other Blue Moon Rocks plant. It's lagging behind too, but not nearly as bad as the Sour D. I LOVE how tight the nodes are growing on that plant. it's pretty amazing actually.
that very last picture is the only one posted here that I took with the lights off. I'll do that more as these start to flower and there's more to take pictures of.

It's day 50 and im flipping them over to flowering tomorrow. They are looking beautiful! I'm getting rid of one of the sour diesel plants. it got fucked somehow as ive mentioned before. temps are between about 65 and 85 from the cold of the night to the heat of the light. not having too many problems. ive pruned the lower branches a bit. the weak ones that wont make it up to the screen. so now it's time to sex these bitches and figure out which ones to keep and then i'll add a screen and tie them all down. i have some really high expectations for this grow. Here are some pictures. PPM's are up to about 1300 and ph is a steady 5.8.

hoooorrayy! this bitch is just getting started now. the lights go off in just a few hours and they will begin their first 12 hour dark cycle. I've also topped off the nutes today with water (as usual) and instead of using the grow formula i switched to the bloom formula. i trust these babies will like it. im in desperate need of a can carbon filter with a fan. im thinking i will get this one....
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JQ14F8/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851
does anyone have any cheaper suggestions, or suggestions for a can filter? ive been looking on craigslist without too much luck. but it appears there are a lot of ppl growing herb around here, if the amount of shit for sale on CL is any indication.

ive identified the sex of at least four plants, im pretty sure anyway. I'm going to let them have another night cycle before I decide to pull the males for sure. it may be one of the saddest days of my growing career, but it is what it is. So far I've got 4 males, no females.

I read somewhere that males develop faster, so hopefully all the plants that haven't showed sex yet are female. How many are still unsexed? I've got my fingers crossed for you. Also sending some feminine mojo over your way The plants look gr8 by the way, makes me and my grow feel inadequate, haha, I'll continue to follow more experienced growers journals and hopefully harvest at your 1337 levels one day

That was yesterday's picture. It was after I had tied it down and taken out the male plants. The last picture up there is a female for sure. She's a real beauty tho! I'm going to a Puscifer show tonight and then a conference on psychedelics too, and wont be back until late monday. I've got a friend coming over to check on the plants for me. hopefully everything goes well while I am gone.

FurrowedBrow said: I really try to provide an ideal environment for these things. The temps don't ever get above 85 or below 63, the lights aren't burning them, there's plenty of airflow on the canopy (and even below it), they had 18 hours of light and 6 hours of undisturbed darkness as well. Feedings occurred four times a day at 6 am and pm and 12 am and pm. I would flood the tray for 20 minutes total each time. It takes about 5 minutes to fully flood and start draining at the top. So they are submerged for about 15 minutes each time, or an hour out of the day. Sooo, i really can't think of much that I didn't do to help promote a feminine outcome. The only thing i can think of is that the seeds are just old and/or I just had some bad luck.

Dude just cut a couple clones from your females and use them as moms to clone from. I know it sucks for this grow, but atleast you can be sure for your next grow you'll have all fems.. in my experience 3 females out of 10 regular seeds is normal. out of the 5 Orange bud seeds my buddy is sexing for me only 1 has shown its female.

Wow, might as well been the exact same as my garden. Seems like there have been a lot of males showing up here recently.

I'm still growing them. I was just thinking about things to do this evening so maybe an update here is what's needed. There are only two strains left. I have 2 blue moon rocks and one LSD plant. All are showing buds now. these next few weeks should be interesting. I'll post some pics and more information in a bit.

flowering day 16
they burned just a bit when i was gone a few days ago. I'm a bit upset about that. these plants know my intentions are to love and protect them. they don't seem too fazed by it. The bud sites are developing nicely. I didn't get any close up of those. I'll do that when I get back next week. I am going out of town for 6 days and will have my friend looking after the plants. Hopefully all goes well while im gone.

the burn doesn't look to bad really. I'm sure that entire tent will be jammed packed with flowers soon enough.

Thanks fellas!
Flowering day 33! They are getting stinkier and denser by the day. nute concentration is up to like 1400 or so. I've only used Floranova for this grow thus far. Just the grow and blooom formula. The ph paper that I was using and had grown accustomed to, ran out. So, I've been using the drops and i hate them. It's caused a bit of a problem at one point, but it was recognized and dealt with appropriately. So, here are some pictures about a month into flowering. I can tell this bud is gonna be uber tastey. After the lights go off each night the plants fill my apartment with an amazing pine smell. I anticipate that smell to change to a pure dank/skunk smell in the next couple weeks. here's some pictures of the three plants. But mainly just the huge LSD plant. The other two, Blue moon rocks, are much much smaller by comparison. next time, clones for sure!

thanks!
I added a teaspoon and a half of DNF bloom fortifier today. i'll do the same next time I change the res. I have only changed the res a few times this entire grow. This is only because the nutes are expensive and im broke. anyway, checked the nutes and the ph after that and everything is A-OK. now im gonna smoke a bowl of this bomb ass ultra-violet.

last night i got back from a walk and there was my landlords card stuck in the door jam. It reads "Please Call!". I called him this morning. He says that he's got kind of a weird situation. Apparently my next door neighbor complained to him that there's marijuana smoke coming up through the walls into her apartment. AND she's got custody of a small child. He asked me if I knew anything about this. i denied everything. I reviewed an addendum to my lease i signed regarding drugs. admission could have gotten me kicked out of here. SOOOOOOO, ive smoked in many many apartments before, heavily, and no one has ever complained. But I've also had three grows without a carbon filter. i think that needs to change asap. anyone have a carbon scrubber and fan they can loan me?

ouch. it suck to be reminded our lifestyle is not welcome. small carbon scrubbers weigh 40 pounds the shipping cost two ways of one would be more then total cost of making one. i think you need to borrow a fan not the scrubber. i will see if i have access to a decent cfm fan.

Since you're a patient that shouldn't matter. For you it's medicine not a drug right?
I'm sure it's different in cali, but in maine a landlord can not give you any grief for having an indoor grow.
Good luck with everything.
I can't wait for the next photo uppdate!

You wont believe this but.... I just ordered 2 extra 6" inch flange Carbon filters
Dimensions are 18" long and 9" wide.
Idk if I would be able to just lend it to you tho loses it value after use.

i was thinking an inline fan w/ a carbon filter would do the trick. i know there are a ton of methods to build one but i just dont want to fuck with it and my buddy may actually be buying it for me (as an investment in the op). i'll get one locally, thru craigslist, i think.

ahh, thanks! Yeah, legally, im fine. However, when I moved in I HAD to sign a drug addendum agreement for the owners insurance purposes (i was told). So if the "preponderance of evidence" suggests that im doing something illegal they have authority to kick me out. I made a CL add for a carbon filter, hopefully someone comes through.

lol, I had the same problem as you basically. But I own the building I grow in and "I" was starting to smell some heavy pot smell (lucky for me my tenants are huge pot smokes and good friends). But my GF's friend came over with her after bar time wasted and start yelling about growing pot and shit because she smelt pot and her ex use to grow... So I got really paranoid and bid on 2 filters (not expecting to win, I didnt put a ridiculously high bid) and waited the next day I got a lil more paranoid and just went and used the infamous "buy it now" and got one right away.... and just my luck I ended up winning both of those auctions lol.
I have both of them on craigslist now xD

hahaha, that actually sounds like an ideal situation. good luck unloading them. the cost to mail em out to me would prolly be ridiculous.
Last night I looked at the plants after the lights went out and used a regular flashlight. I brushed my fingers up and down the main stock on the larger BMR plant and then smelled my fingers. OMG, this shit smellls sooooo delightful. I wish i could show you all the smell. I'll describe it in much more vivid detail after harvest/curing. I just REALLY don't want to take these plants down before they are ready. I had to do that on my two prior grows and each time it really pissed me off and put me under a ton of stress. I'm thinking a carbon filter is the key to all this. Growing in apartments sucks sooo bad.

61 degrees at night, about 85 in the heat of the day. not too bad.
there they are! im going out of town early tomorrow morning and wont be back until late sunday night. My biggest fear right now is that my neighbor complains to the landlord again and they do an inspection while I am gone. they have to give me 24 hours notice so i may just have a friend swing by here on their way outta town on saturday. hopefully shit works out. i REALLY don't want to lose this crop as I suspect it will be my best tasting / best high yet.

today is day 45 of 12/12.
The seed package of the BRM says the following from the breeder, "For blueberry lovers...very aromatic buds. flowers in 50-55 days."
The seed package of the LSD says the following from the breeder, "For sativa lovers...strawberry flavored. flowers in 45-55 days."
they've got a little bit to go. I may start flushing them soon.

I started the flush yesterday (day 55 of flowering). its just clean ph adjusted water from here on out. After 3 days running the gravity. i had like 30 ml in an approx 20 gal res. it actually seemed to help a bit. Some of the trichs are getting amber now. it wont be long my friends. sorry for the lack of pictures this log.

ha, its funny. i was at the weed store talking to a grower there. he suggested it. I actually did some research and most people said don't try it. so im just drinking the juice now. just been flushing it with 5.8 ph water since 1/28 (8 days ago). I started a 48 hour period of darkness thursday night at 10 pm too. so that'll give them about 48 hours of dark before the harvest. IDK if that'll have an impact, but it's something ive wanted to try for a while. i haven't looked at the plants since then, but the leaves were all still pretty green then. i hope all the salts leached out of the plant ok. i figured 8-9 day flush would be good. we'll see.

I had to ask. Didn't sound that a sound idea, imo either. I've tried the darkness thing only twice, didn't feel I gained anything from it tho. I know there are a lot of people willing to argue about how well it works for them. Can't wait to hear your opinion on the subject.

harvested them a week ago tonight. they've been drying at about 70 degrees F and 50% humidity for the last week. in darkness. I smoked a tiny bit of some smaller nugs that had already dried out. it had a strong body high for me, which i love. im not even gonna comment on the taste of this until its cured. few more days and it'll be ready.
