First Grow

Starting my first grow in about two weeks, going to be using a small gun safe about 3ft in height, and 2x2. Thinking about using a scrog bcuz of the height restrictions, and critical mass seeds for a large harvest considering only 2 plants. Any advice on what types of medium i can use, how long to grow, what type of light (LED may be appropriate bcuz inside is very reflective, but idk) and how to set up the scrog. any other advice would be greatly appreciated, as well as a link to anyone's topic who already asked these questions

If you're doing microgrow, you will want a small wattage CMH (ceramic metal halide) bulb, I've seen them done in PC cases, i'll get back to you when I have the link don't waste you're time with LED's.

Gotta ask why not the LED's, i hear a lot of growers talk bad about them but never got why. Energy efficient, and full-spectrum lighting is all ive heard. A 70w CMH sounds good but no idea where to find one, the local home depot only has a 50 and 100w MH. and if i used rockwool in small pots about how much would i need to get thru the cycle, or could i just add fertilizer when needed?

just curious what price do they want on the 50w and 100w MH and what details they had? were they protected? kelvin temperature?
If you want anything at harvest time you will not use LED'S because if you think about it the little bulbs aren't throwing enough radiation at the angles you want, and they create almost as much heat as a MH anyways so whats the point?
You would have to surround the enitre plant with high end led's costing thousands of dollars, the cheap led's wont do jackshit and I know I've seen newbs keep doing it over and over again.
The CMH is what I would outfit myself with if I was at low wattage microscrog man look into it and good luck, make sure to ventihilate.

$80 for the 50w and $90 for the 100w, low quality and thats all they had. theres a hydroponic supply shop in my city and im plannin to check it out soon, hopefully theyll have some better options on the lights. ill go with the CMH for now, hopefully thisll work out and ill move on to bigger projects.

http://advancedtechlighting.com/mhced17.htm
you can select wattage as 70, unprotected or protected, and your color temperature (kelvin) of either 3000k or 4200k
I'm not saying these are the best prices but it's a good place to start...
(p.s. I'm not trying to spam, I know that sites a bit hard to navigate I pm'd but this link is within that site)
These will also require a corresponding MH ballast and socket so...
theres a combo package on right now with 70 watt... seems like 100 watt's cheaper lol http://www.advancedtechlighting.com/lbcombo.htm

I got a 90w led ufo off of ebay for 100.00 with shipping 2w bulbs full spectrum. I have seen MANY good results with led. low power usage. At this point its better for smaller grows than massive cause the bigger lights cost ALOT more... but if your planning a smaller grow they work well

Just curious have you grown anything out with 90w led's before? Those UFO's always end up in the trash, best to cut your losses and sell it now before it stops working.

![:ilold: :ilold:](https://files.growery.org/smileys/ilold.gif) I can't speak for him. But I have over 100 grows under leds, and they do work, there is still room for improvements of course. I've been testing led for a local manufacturer for almost 2 years now and can say some work better than others. The ufo is a fair unit, and should yield close to that of a 400 hps. I was able to out yield a 400 hps with a four band one watt leds 120 watt unit. So now you know not all leds end up in the trash.
Just to note I still haven't matched a led that could compare to a 600 hps, tho the largest led I've tested to date was a 360 watt unit.

I seen 8 of those UFO's in action (yep ebay specials) they promptly went down 1 by 1. Grower eventually stepped up to a 600w lumatek.
The ones that were working at the end of his first UFO grow he tried to sell but nobody serious would touch them, he ended up selling them to some newb for like 20 bucks each, I think he paid a bit more than $140 each though at the time.
I've seen some pretty impressive 400 hps grows, care to link me to one of your 120watt vs 400hps? at this point I have only seen bad experiences with ufo's is all i'm saying

Another LED 90 w grow
they work well for smaller grows... are cheaper in electricity and work fine. You also have to be careful who you buy your leds from. there are cheap knock offs. Plus which version light was this example above using? larger grows your better off using HPS until the prices go down on the led panels. If they do go down weight per what you wont be able to beat!

Whoever you know using them probably bought cheap knock off stuff.... the bulbs should far outlast a hps bulb. Also use far les electricity and create far less heat.
