Plant Problem
    #578248 - 08/14/11 11:07 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Hello!!  I have a bit of a problem:

Hydro Growers:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones? - Clones
2. How old are your plants? - Just rooted, been vegging for a week
3. How tall are your plants? - 5-7"
4. What type of hydro system are you using? - Shallow water culture (micro hydro)
5. What brand/type of nutrients are you using? - Botanicare:  Pro Blend Grow & Bloom, Liquid Karma, Sweet Grape
6. What is the Ph of your nutrient solution? - 6.14
7. What is the PPM/EC of your tap water? - 266
8. What is the PPM/EC of your nutrient solution? - 404
9. What is the temperature of your nutrient solution? - 82.8
10. Does your PPM/EC show a rise or fall when you do your daily PPM check? - Slight fall
11. Does your pH show a rise or fall when you do your daily check? - slight rise
12. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? - not yet
13. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") - 1000w HPS
14. How close are your lights to the plants? - 3 feet
15. What size is your grow space in square feet? - 4x4x6 or 6.5
16. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? - temp is from 85-105F.  I don't know the humidity.
17. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? - yes there are little bugs on some of my foliage and these little white spots or deposits.
18. How much experience do you have growing? - This is my second go.

So I moved a pineapple kush clone into my space from a buddies room and within two days I noticed this problem.  I've heard of using neem oil for different pests.  What should I do for this particular problem.  Thank you all for your time.

Spider mites and salt build up. Since they are so young I think it would be safe to throw a no pest strip in there to nuke those fuckers. Maybe a little azamax to prevent them from getting another foothold. Also if you have moms I'd nuke them with forbid to erradicate them.
Also your temps are getting way too high!

Can you link me to where I can find a 'no pest strip' that you know might work?

I'll pick up some azamax tomorrow.  Shit that forbid is expensive!

Do you know of any sites that might sell all this for cheaper?

Thanks for all your help.

And about the temps...  When I was buying all the components to my set up I really didn't take into consideration how hot a 1000w HPS with an umbrella hood would be.  I've got a 6" inline fan and filter sucking all the heat out of the tent and outdoors.  I've been looking at stand alone AC units to plumb into the tent.

My last harvest was pretty good for my first run despite the temps, I think.

Yeah that last round looks awesome! You can find no pest strips at ace hardware, walmart, and homedepot. Forbid is expensive but a little lasts a lifetime. I'd also reccomend a air-cooled hood next round if you can get one.

Thanks man.

That was exactly my thinking, especially in my small space.

Alright...  I'm on it!  They're going down these mites, sir.

Thanks again.

And BTW, should I do a fresh water flush for the salt buildup?  Or whats the proper remedy for this?  Peace.

Yeah I'd leach them then give them a very light feeding.

Still trying to get my ppm dialed.  Everyone's numbers burn my plants and the recommendations on the jugs are very very very high.  It seems my numbers are half that of others that have posted ppm recommendations but anything over that causes problems.  Learning.

Yeah I always go low and work up to see what the plant can handle. Do you have a continous meter or just one to check every now and then.

I have a hand held waterproof Hanna meter.  I usually just check every morning.

Have you cleaned the probe lately and calibrated? I know that sounds like a stupid question but sometimes little things get overlooked.

Which Hanna meter are you using?

I thought everything was going well with one of my grows and then ran into problems.  I had not changed anything and was perplexed.  Come to find out my meter was giving me bad readings because the probe was dirty.

Does it have the paper/material pH probe (a few millimeters sticking out the tester end)? How long have you been using it?

This is it.  The testers look like a little light bulb and a metal probe and something else I don't know how to describe.

I don't see the paper/material pH probe that I was referring to.  However, the water inside my glass piece is clean, clear water and yours looks filthy.  To be honest, I have never worked with your tester and I don't know how to clean it.  I found out how clean my by reading the instructions it came with.

I actually threw my pH meter against the wall today.  I had to have the paper/material pH probe replaced because it ran out.  My shop did it and did a horrible job.  I lost my paper/material pH probe up inside the meter and could not get it out.  I will just use the drops since I am in soil.

good luck

Go down to your grow store and you can buy a electrode conditioner/cleaner.  Use that and a tooth brush to clean it.  Then get the appropriate pH calibration solution, refer to the manual that came with your meter.  And calibrate it in that solution.  Since it is a 2in1 meter you should also get a ECC solution and calibrate that at the same time.

So I stopped by my hydro shop today and got the Hanna 1500 ppm calibration solution.  The meter calibrates itself, nice!  It was only about 120 off so I don't really think it was too big of a problem.  I just don't understand how people can be up around 1200 to 1600 in full flower...

Well: on to another slight problem.

I have a girl that is 4 days into 12/12...

...and I'm seeing this type of 'burning and curling' that looks different than nutrient burn that I've seen before...

I did just soak her with a Liquid Karma foliar feed and otherwise she looks gorgeous.  What do you think?  Is this heat stress of some kind or is this from the foliar feed just localized in these areas?

Did you do the foliar feed with the lights on?  It looks like it may be burnt due to water being on the foliage and the light burning the plant it self.

Another question:

I've got some plants that are about 3 weeks into flowering and am still having a mite problem.  Can I use Azamax during the budding cycle.  Thanks all.
