Ballast cuts off when bumped

ok guys i got an 600 watt light off ebay heres the ebay ad.
http://cgi.ebay.com/600W-WATT-HPS-MH-6-AIR-COOL-TUBE-HYDROPONIC-GROW-LIGHT-/250842415881?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a675f8309#ht_5818wt_905
So i tested this bad boy out and it seems to work fine EXCEPT a couple things. 1) Is it normal for ballasts not to have an on/off switch, i.e. they just turn on when its plugged in and off when its unplugged, (i understand this will work alot more naturally with it plugged into a timer) AND THE BIG QUESTION IS A BALLAST SUPPOSED TO CUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY WHEN U BUMP IT?? a couple times when i was testing it, I moved the ballast while it was on and it immediately cut off then back on making me CRINGE watching my light cut on and off so fast. And im not talkin about dropped the ballast or bumped it hard, i just mean if u move this fucker its gunna cut off. Is this a good safety measure or poor wiring??? I felt reassured this things got a 3 yr warranty.

To answer your first question, yes.
To your second, no. I would say it is faulty and you need to call the vendor and have it replaced. Unfortunately, that probably means you won't have a warranty on it anymore because its not the ballast you originally purchased with a 3 year warranty: its the replacement.
This happened to me with my electronic ballast I bought. Well, it lit the HPS bulb but not the MH, and it was supposed to be switchable. I asked them, and that's what they told me about the warranty. So I asked them to sent me a magnetic ballast instead of a new electronic one. That way I could replace the gut if that one ever went out too...
