I prefer ar least 50 watts per square foot. Tho many choose to use Floros or cfl's even to keep mothers under. Myself I'd use a MH for vegging.

While that is a rough guideline; watts is a measure of power consumption and not useable plant light.

The cheap UFO LED's are perfect for inducing super tiny internodal spacing while vegging (as low as 1/8th of an inch IME)...though you usually need a slightly more expensive LED light for flowering, they are not quite worth the money for flowering but I love to include one as at least a lighting supplement while vegging just due to the fact that all of the light generated is usable and easily absorbed by the most abundant types of cholophyll, as where with fluoros and MH a lot of the light generated is in the wrong spectrum and either is reflected off of the plants or absorbed by other pigments and converted into heat, which both stresses the plant and speeds up the transpiration process, thereby increasing your water requirements.
damn was that all one huge sentence...grammar is definitely not my strong point anyway, if anyone thinks I'm providing misinformation please feel free to argue the point, this info is based on my research and experience using various types of LED growlights.
