I'm half way through it, very impressed and highly recommended it. its been a long time since I found a series that keeps me thinking about the plot even when I'm not reading it
I guess HBO's making a TV series based upon it http://www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/index.html

Never heard of it. The last fantasy i read was The Hobbit, and have been looking into another book around the same genre. Have you read any other of the author's stuff?
Dat nigga on the cover looks like Aragorn.

no this is the first book by him I've read but, you see the quote at the top by Robert Jordan? I've read a few of his books and he's a fantastic author, for him to speak highly of this book is truly something to be said.
I highly recommended this book if you like fantasy or even just fiction. most of the book seems like it could happen except for the few creatures of myth that they sometimes encounter.
definitely check it out man. I found out they've made a few episodes of the TV series already: http://www.fastpasstv.eu/tv/game-of-thrones/ obviously doesn't do the book justice but eh

I haven't done much fantasy reading in a while, although I do enjoy the genre quite a bit. I've been plowing my way through Vonnegut recently.
And I actually watched most of the first episode on HBO a few weeks ago, but I had no idea it was based on a book.

Game of Thrones is awesome. The whole series has been amazing so far. I just hope Martin can finish the series before he pulls a Robert Jordan.
The HBO shows have been great, too. I can't wait to watch the new one!

Jordan died before he finished the last one (I think the 7th). It was finished by another author postmortem

Robert Jordan passed away a few years ago before completing his massive epic-fantasy series "Wheel of Time" -- It is currently being finished by another author based upon notes & already written passages left by Jordan.
A Game of Thrones is just book One of the as-yet-unfinished "Song of Fire and Ice" series. Clash of Kings.... Storm of Swords..... Feast of Crows.....
Dance with Dragons is coming out this summer..... will it finish off the series? I kind of doubt it, actually.

I've read all 4 books but was unaware that the series was unfinished (I didn't find out til I was 3/4 done with the 4th book)
it's a little tough at first each chapter follows 1 character so until you learn all the characters (and there are a lot) it's a little difficult to follow but I love how one chapter will leave off on a cliff hanger and you learn the outcome from a different point of view the author also does a good job of changing your opinion of the characters
