 Making the switch to Linux today...

I'm having some pretty shitty PC problems, so I'm trying to make the switch to Linux and hoping to hell it stops me from overheating and shutting down...its working so far, but I'm not sure.
So, if I stop posting, thats why...assume I'm not in prison or killed  .

Your problem is faulty hardware. Is you pc/laptop new? Is it running 7?

It was. Its 2 years old. Before I made this switch today, it slowed down to the point where I couldn't even boot the thing. It would freeze at the "Welcome" screen. 
And, I haven't overheated in a few hours of leaving the laptop on. Before I was lucky if I got 30 minutes.
My only complaint is that it seems like the keyboard can't keep up with my typing. It drops letter every once in a while for some reason?  Not always the same letter either so I know its not just some junk stuck under the key. Hmmm.

i used to use ubuntu all the time till it became a pain running wine all the time for windows only programs
