Well cacti can go months without water... So make sure its not outside in the elements during hurricane season.

Basically to grow cacti you 1) put them in shitty soil 2) dont water them 3) treat them like shit

lol

ehhhh

not exactly, but close enough, you CAN do all that.

but you can put them in good soil, water them with some cactus fertilizer once in awhile, and if you water them too much you treat them like shit and they die.

but putting a cactus in good soil will get better growth than bad soil.

Im not sure about Peyote specifically but for my Pedros I water them usually 2-3 times a week under a full Arizona sun with temperatures around 100 degrees being the norm right now.

I use Shultz cactus fertilizer as well and use it with each watering as directed. My lady is doing great and very strong. The roots have taken hold well and she has become very solid.

Peyote would probably demand a little less water, maybe once a week or even bi-weekly but thats just a guess.

My cactus love a nice, rich soil. Good Luck!

what do you mean, split?

Also keep in mine how hot it is here. If I was back on the east coast I would probably only water them once a week.

She loves the 2-3 times a week waterings and is doing very good with the fertilizer also

LOL, you said you wanted to get your hands on some. Well, there's the deal. You can't CULTIVATE cannabis in the united states, but you can BUY the seeds, eh?

thanks, I never understand why people tell me you can water your cactus more than once a week if even once a week when I've seen overwatered cactus so common a dillemna.

Oh well, thanks for the advice

its because of climate.  i can water my peyote 3 times a week no problem and not see rot....that is because mine are growing outside in full sun year round and i use a good mix.

lots of people use "cacti mix" which have peat and other organic crap in it that is not good....with these kinds of mixes, you water lots you rot lots.

my trichocereus are planted in ground outside and we jsut had 2 weeks of non stop heavy rain (about 80cm total) and they dont have so much as a brown mark   but lophs (and pretty much any cactus with a large tap root) needs to have a good dry between watering and does not like spongy substrates (ie peat, wood bits, large clumps of poo type fertilizers etc)

hope that helps

Just as the above poster said, its going to vary from climate to climate. I too water my cactus 2-3 times per week without problems, usually give it 1/2 gallon per watering

As someone else said the best way is to water the catcus, allow the soil to dry out and after its been dry for a couple of days, water them again.

yeah, I guess it does, I don't remember what substrate I used, maybe it was spongy.

probably
