I think this would be better suited to the other growables forum...but I'm pretty sure that salvia divinorum needs bright but indirect sunlight...and a pretty high relative humidity to start with...although from what i have read you can slowly work the humidity down and acclimate the plant to around 30 or 40% RH with little to no issues. The way i have read it, you should be able to pluck a few leaves here and there as it grows and just slowly save up leaves, but keep the plant alive. I would just pick a size that you want the plant to stay at and every time a branch or shoot grows outside of that imaginary barrier just snip it off and save the leaf material from those branches. It's very wasteful to just grow a salvia plant to a certain size then chop the whole thing down.
Also not sure on the whole growth speed I imagine that depends on conditions peace, agmotes165

I've heard that Salvia seeds rarely come true, so you would be better off getting someone on the shroomery to trade you a cutting. That's about all I know on Salvia

acclimating isn't much of an issue, for many plants. Just use a dry cleaning bag, and open it up for an hour at the coolest part of the day, slowing increasing the amount of time for 1 hour, every week or two.
If your humidity is too low, for even that, you can try using a small humidifier in the area, pebble trays, or even making a small green house out of a Martha Stuart closet.

smoking straigh up leaves probably wont even give you a headchange, you need to make an extract with some 100% pure acetone or everclear, if you wanna make 1 gram of salvia 10x you would need 11 grams of plain leaves or 6 grams of plain to get 1 gram of 5x, this is the lazy extract
