Are the trichomes what get you high because they contain THC or is the THC in the "bud" also?
Both... or is THC in the bud or is it just the sparkly white stuff on it?
Also- if you just took the thricomes and ate them or put them in your mouth would they absorb because of the THC or does it also have to be activated by heat?
One more- if you made cannabis milk or cream and then froze it and made it into ice cream would it still work or not because it froze?

Have you seen the documentary Run from the Cure? During the question and answer session yesterday with Dr. Weil someone asked a question about it. In the film he does an alcohol extraction to get an oil. They put the oil in a syringe and put a drop on their finger and just put it on their tongue. This is for using it's anticancer properties though. You've smoked some brick weed, right? How many trichs do you see on that bud? It still gets you high though. I haven't read the research on this yet but I think that the psychoactive properties lie within the bud and the trichomes. Otherwise we wouldn't be smoking the bud and we would just harvest the trichomes. Also, it seems kind of ridiculous that there are claims that strains contain up to 30% thc. So if you have a 3 OZ harvest, then one OZ is purely the chemical compound of THC. That seems ridiculous. Maybe I'm misunderstanding their claims. Read this page too...

also, ya i think it'd still work as a cream in the freezer. doesn't seem to harm anything when putting just buds or hash in the freezer for me, but ive never made an ice cream out of it.

I hope that the tests they do for % of THC is done just on the trichomes, to determine what percentage of the trich is THC. Which really doesn't tell the consumer enough about the plant.

Yeah, I don't know how much we know about cannabinoid biomechanics. Probably not as much as we should.

We can't even figure out how anandamide works in our body, so I doubt we can really figure out how the cannabinoids in marijuana effect us.
Prohibition has forced us to go to science to prove what man has known all along, that cannabis is a medicinal plant.
Side thought: I'd be curious to know if there has been any research on how smoking vs edibles effects the way these cannabinoids are available to our body for absorption.

Well for one, when consumed orally, THC is metabolized in greater amounts into 11-Hydroxy-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (11-OH-THC) , which is psychoactive in it's own right however it's effects on the psyche differ from THC itself.

just a a example, One pulls 100g dried bud does a extraction, pulls 90% of goodies... you get 5g honey/hash whatever, thats 5% Agreed? If a plant had 20% or more one would assume you by rights you would be able to pull 20g or more. Just by looking at a plant we can assume 5 to 10% would be more realistic. If a plant had 20% then it would look like a diamond in the sun. That is all.

So you imply then that all THC is located in the trichomes and that there is NO thc located with the bud itself. correct?

No, however I assume this as I can only go by what I hear and see via information gathered on the internet and other sources.
Edit: Also as far as I was aware 90% was gathered from the trichomes and around the bud, thats why I said 90%
But in the end thats just what I think so its as good as the next persons thoughts. End of transaction

No, THC content claims are misleading and no where near accurate. This is a basic explanation of how it works. Breeder grows 5 plants of a new strain, when they finish they test the plants for THC concentration. Plant 1 measures at 10%, Plant 2 and 3 @ 15%, Plant 4 @ 8%, Plant 5 @ 22%.
So, since plant 5 has the highest concentration of THC they post that as fact and move on. In short, THC concentration is a marketing ploy just as is the total harvest weight on the breeder packs. Sure, the plant may have the POTENTIAL to reach 22%, doesn't mean its going to happen every time or even often. Too many factors come into play to make this number even somewhat feasible.
I always tell people to choose strains based upon the high they want, then the grow space the have available, and finally whatever one looks the prettiest to them. It doesn't matter if that SSH you want has a 89% THC content if you're trying to grow it in a 2x2 closet with 4 CFL lights. Your grow space isn't suited for the plant to thrive properly and you'll almost never see it's full potential.

but that still implies that some plants literally have 22% of their dry weight stored in the trichomes... I just don't know if that's possible
