Is just an ordinary household fan sufficient for air exchange? If not, what should I look in to? I had originally thought that fans set up to simply blow air out of a closet or room would be sufficient, but then got in to reading about supplementing CO2, and using special fans and stuff. It seems the original method might be prone to cause issues with smell throughout the house as well.
And yet another thing. Cooling a 400 w HPS? I know that a digital ballast and a fan help. What else? And how?
And what kind of reflector might some recommend. <$100 is where it's at.

Whats the air exchange rating on that filter there , thats a mini charcoal right?

You will want a fan that is powerful enough to pull air through the light and a filter if you want to filter it. But if you dont have a lot of money like me its hard to find things.

Well you can make your own carbon filter pretty easy. But the fans arent cheap. I'm actually looking for a good one right now.

DIY carbon filter eh? Perfect, I'll get reading.
I also saw some cheapish ($30 range) extractor fans on ebay. That doesn't seem to expensive. Is anything in that price range typically crap?

Well from what I have heard, they are not meant to pull huge amounts of air. Since they are used in ducting where there are other fans. I think I saw the same ones you are talking about.

I got mine for 150 bucks fan and filter and shipping.
Most good fans alone cost 125 and up, so a filter plus shipping seems to be a good deal to me.

expensive is a subjective term. $150 is a LOT of money for some people.

$150 is fine. It's an upfront cost that will disappear in to the financial background in a matter of minutes.

I tried two cheap models and the HTG seems to be the best cheap deal so far.
When looking remember you want to move 2 times or better the cfm of the grow space.
You can find your rooms CFM with this LxWxH.
Also the more air you move the better your yeilds so I hear.
I move 5 to 6 times my rooms CFM myself.
