Escaping Light

If you have a light leak, is that lost lumens/light for your plants?

Will interupting the dark stage in veg cause hermies?

I don't really have enough experience to say for sure, but I'm pretty sure that has partially to do with genetics as well. I've heard that some plants won't hermie no matter how much you stress them, but other plants will hermie with just 5 minutes of opening the door during their night period.

I think ive read somewhere that its mainly interupting the flowering dark period that causes hermies. And there is something called a true female that wont hermie no matter what its not really the genetics, im pretty sure its in the grow bible some dude would give plants messed up light cycles to hermie all the females that were/would turn hermie, and only the true females would stay female still. The indica true females are alot easier to find than the sativa which im pretty sure was like 1 in a thousand.

Heres the info on the XX Females for you

Quote:

Notes and Interviews by Mr XX
100% Female Seeds
Posted by TheSiliconMagician on February 13,
1999 at 05:17:41 PT:
As some of you know I have been a regular
in the chat room for awhile now and I spend
large amounts of time in there. Anyway, I have
had the extreme pleasure of speaking to Mr. XX.
over the last few nights for many hours and
have gotten to know him quite well via E-mail
and the chat. As it turns out he confided in me
and a few others about his process for coming
up with 100% Seeds.
Now, Mr. XX is a very nice guy. Funny to
and its always a pleasure to speak with him.
The guy does not speak English too well but his
wit comes through the rough language and he's a
riot to talk to. He is a pure lover of
cannabis. He feels that everyone should share
and share alike and help the community in
general.
He simply wants to share his knowledge with
the cannabis community because he has spent 15
years researching this and I spoke with him in
depth about it. Done with Mr.XX's permission
because he wants everyone to be able to do
390

this.
He stressed literally hundreds of plants
with an irregular photoperiod.
What he does is put the lights on 12/12 for 10
days. Then turns the lights on 24 hours, then
12/12 again for a few days, then back to 24
hours for a day, then 12/12 again for a few
weeks.
If he does this and no hermaphrodites come
up. He has found a 100% XX female that cannot
go hermaphrodite naturally. He says that your
chances of finding a 100% XX female is vastly
increased when using Indica genetics. He told
me that the more Afghani or Nepalese genetics
the plant has, the better the chances of
finding a natural XX female. His exact words
were "Where did Mother Nature give weed a home
at originally?"
I tried to get him to narrow it down to a
ratio, but he never specified just how many
plants per are XX females his exact words are
"plenty of XX girls for everybody" and that is
all he will say on the subject. Only that it
takes a lot of time and a lot of plants to find
that one female.
He then uses Gibrellic acid. 30 centilitres
of water with 2 grams of Gibrellic acid
[Authors note: This is an incorrect amount

himself but not in this post. He did so later
on.]
(Continued) and 2 drops of Natruim Hydroxide to
liquefy the Gibrellic. Then applies as normal
and creates the male flowers. He has as pud
said gotten down to the 4th Generation with
NO loss of vigour, NO genetic deficiencies and
NO hermaphrodites. He claims that the plants
are EXACT GENETIC CLONES of one another.
Complete sisters. Basically it's clone from
seed instead of from normal cloning methods.
Posted by TheSiliconMagician on February

Mr.XX also says that it is easy for the
home grower to find an XX female. It’s a very
time consuming process but a straightforward
one. He says that home growers should confine
themselves to ONE strain. Mr. XX used a Skunk#1
x Haze x Hawaiian Indica. He says to separate
those plants from your main grow and stress the
hell out of them. Do this over and over with
every new crop of seeds you get of that strain
until you find the XX female. While this is
probably difficult it is by no means
impossible.

_________________________________________________________________________________________
Another anecdote "The slimmer the fingers
the harder it is to find the XX girls", so if
you have that Columbian Sativa.. it is going to
be nearly impossible for you to find that 1
female.. he says it's possible, but very
unlikely.. TSM
* CORRECTION: 0.02g of Gibrellic, NOT 2
grams
And this concludes the chapter on Basic
Breeding. Hopefully in later editions we will
be to expand on what we have mentioned here and
show you some examples of some breeding
projects and how they work. In the meantime you
should have enough information here to start
work on your own cannabis strain.
I wish to thank Vic High, Chimera and
Strawdog for making a major contribution to
this chapter.

yes it can stress them out.

same as in flowering when theyre on 12/12, when they need dark, they need TOTAL dark...

its kinda strange that outdoors the moon doesnt effect them, but i guess it gives off different whatevers:shrug:

but an 18-24 hour light period for veg should be uninterrupted.

when lights come on, the plants turn on as well. so on and off is gonna freak em out and youll most likely get hermies

Well shit I might have to go with 24/0 I didnt want to do that to the electric bill. Well, acctually they do have a pretty bad light leak, so they might not really have a dark period, just a shady like period. This is just my veg box, the flowering rom will be completely lightleakless.

dude flouros are the bomb for veg, if im not mistaken they actually have a better spectrum than the hps.

if you cant get the big 100w'er just get a few lil 23w or whatever..

how many plants?

I was going to buy a 100 watter CFL but bought a 400w att hps instead. If I switch to cfls now, id use about 5 of them normal light socket ones. I just dont want to switch because I heard that switching the lights to lower lumens is no good.

hmmm, i wish i knew the answer to that.

i mean of course the higher the lumens the better, but im gonna say that in veggie it doesnt matter.

even still a 400w hps on 24/0 should be $60 a month at its highest.

which a $60 spike will raise alarm, and its not worth gettin shit for one plant...

get a more exp. indoor grower in here to answer whether or not reverting to cfl's will decrease potential, my guess is answers across the board will be no...

i always use cfl's for veg. they have a better veg spectrum. but i honestly dont know if decreasing the lumens will hurt it

The extra 60 dollars a month will cause alarm? I was planning on running the cfls soon for veg, when I clone. And running a total of 650 watts hps for flowering. Which I dont know if I want to do that now cuz 650 watts on 12/12 is probably alot per month. My 250 watter is digital ballast and thats what they are under atm at a 18/6

An extra $60 a month wont raise any alarms. Utility companies are in the business of selling power, informing the LEO's because your power bill went up $60 a month is against their best interests and they just wont do it.

The only time that a power company will supply usage stats to the LEO's is if they are served a subpoena ordering them to do so.

I was kind of under the impression that my 250 watt digital, and my magnetic 400w together on 12/12 would run about 30 a month. Due to not getting the 100w CFL, I have to run my 250hps atm for veg. I could wire up the CFLs tomorrow, If change wont hurt my plants. What kind of power spike do they look for to inform the leo's?

They don't look for power spikes and inform LEO's. Utility companies dont give a fuck if you grow weed.

As I said, they will only provide your usage stats if ordered to do so and if the cops know enough about you to make such an order then you're already fucked anyway.

Yea, but im not just going to be running the 400 watt light. And thats probably just to run the setup, not including the cost of the hot air coming into my room and making the ac cut on.

Il probably just flower out these bagseeds soon, and wait until I buy a strain to hook up both hps'es and have them not inside the house so it doesnt effect the ac.
