 Reasons not to get a Medical Card?

Does anyone know if being a Medical Marijuana member will prevent you from getting government jobs, working at schools, working for the city or other negative things? (Could a police officer, fireman, or a Lifeguard be Medical Marijuana members?)

I believe its pretty confidential (or at least they dont stigmatize you for it)

I work a life guarding job in the summer and I am a district manager and my boss knows that I smoke but he says as long as it doesnt affect my preformance he dont care

Well I work for a private company but I am also a boy scout and a high ranking one at that and run a sailbase at a large camp and they are cool with it. My buddy works for the county but he has a keep it on the DL deal with his captain so I dont know.

A few years ago the Supreme court in Cali ruled that all employers (gov included) could terminate employees who test positive for cannabis metabolites even if you have a medi card. Check the shroomery news service for the article. That information kind of relates. They aren't going to ask you (i wouldn't think) if you have a medi card, they will test your piss, hair, tissue, semen, blood, or w/e else to see if you are a drug user.

I was going to ask that exact question. What do you mean "high ranking?" I got my Eagle which is the highest rank but they still kicked me out at 18 just like every single other boy in the country. Unless you mean you're an adult leader... but I would expect adult leaders would know better than to say they're a boyscout

Well I do not have to necessarily worry about any drug tests. I just wanted to see if anyone has had or heard of issues in employment due to being a medical patient.
But now that I think about it, it would be hypocritical of a business/employer to prevent an employee from using MJ as substance for medical purposes while letting another use their adderall, vicodin or whatever......

yeah, its hypocritical for sure. But until they move cannabis off schedule one that's the way it'll be. Especially if you work for a large national or a multi-national corporation.

i have more than a couple of buddies from my early days that became eagle scouts. I was in it through like weebalos or however that's spelled. i liked the soap box derby. that was fun. anyway, yeah, you give off that 'im an eagle scout' vibe. im sure you know what i mean. it's something to be respected, as i know it's a really great accomplishment.

Hey Harry, we should start an eagle scout thread and I meant I was a boy scout, I have been meaning to get re-involved but I have been busy. For those of you whom know what I am talking about I was a region chief for the OA.

very nice, I was in OA as well. the ordeal around here is hardcore, but it was pretty fun and it's an accomplishment I can be proud of. Congrats on region Chief, that is indeed a big deal

That is about as far as I got. I was in the worst shape out of my entire troop probably and still got promoted up from cub scouts first. I would have stayed but that troop kind-of went down the the drain. I never got any of my badges I earned, including the arrow of light. My parents got pissed and that is how I stopped being a boy scout.
I have a feeling that my troop was more fucked up than I realized at the time.

In case some else was curious:
I found out that getting a medical card stays only in your medical record and therefore cannot be accessed in Background checks and be held as mandatory or voluntary information during a job interview.
