Purple grow light for clones.

I'm on my second grow now with nice healthy Super Skunk clones. I had a makeshift area keeping them wet, until i got this cheap kit.
Perfect cheap kit and works great. I added a seed heat mat underneath to provide heat to the water.
**My question is Do these purple florescent grow lights work from Lowes?
I just hooked everything up last night and seem ok. I just can't find anything in the search and wanted to know other's experience.

really? no one has ever seen these? The thing says grow light on the package.
I can confirm that it does seem to be working... just not sure on efficiency.

Maybe give us a link to the product your talking about. The pic you have just looks like flouros to me.

Is that a deep water cloner or mister? I`m not an expert but I dont think the light matters that much at this stage. If you give them too much light they dehydrate and die. That looks around the light intensity of 6ft from a HID, so it looks good. First they need roots to absorb nutes and water b4 they can do much growing and u can go to full strength nutes, THEN light intensity is a production factor. You`re giving them enough light to do the little growing they can do with no root system which is almost none.
The spectrum of the floro is shifted towards the blue end to create a wide spectrum that produces more light within the smaller range of blue spectrum that is associated with veg. plant growth. The less red spectrum in veg. incourages more compact plants with slower veg growth rates IMO blue spectrum burns cooler also.

i have been trying to get a link but I can't find this thing on the web anywhere!
I will take screen shots of the box and hopefully get a better pic. (you are correct, the pic looks white, but I assure you it's purple)
That is a bubbler cloner, will get better pics as well)
the unfortunate thing is that they have all died today. I went to look and they are all brown and wilted... I don't know what I am doing wrong?

your plants will grow, but not well, under that light. Upgrade to a t-5 or t-8 setup (both of which can be found at home depot).

I found a t5 2 bulb setup... but it didn't have a power cord. I had to hot wire it up.
so I took it back and will try something else.
I still haven't been able to get a clone to work.

Man, for clones all you need is a shop light and 2 grow spec floros. You can get a 4 foot shop light for like 20 bucks. The lights to go in them for another ten. I've used them for years and they work just fine.

the space I have to work with is small. 2.5-3ft in length at the max.
I have other shop lights... wish I could use them. Tomorrow I am going back to Lowes or Menards and see what they have.

you had what you needed, all that was left was the little adapter to turn it into a wall plugged unit. It's not that hard to do, that thread will explain how to do it.

got the same kind of light, except T8 florescent like 12 bucks.
Thanks.
Just pulled all my dead clones out of the aeroponic cloner and the stems of the cutting have trichoderma mold growing on them.
Anyone think any stray mushroom spores are getting to them? This was what I was trying to prevent...

Trich on your stems? What's the Ph of the water? It's a bit unusual IMO, constant running water shouldn't be a safe haven for trich.

Ph is nice... I have the clonex solution in there between 5.5 - 6.5 light yellowish green on ph liquid meter.
I am using a bubblestone aeroponics method.
this time I tried it w/o a rockwool cube and just placed the cutting inside a neoprene disk and attached too a 2" net pot.
(could have had temp issues as well... ) water temp now is a constant 77F
______________________________________________________________________
trying again... this time with rockwool and hydroton balls.
where do you guys take your cuttings from? the top ie.) topping the plant? or near the bottom where they are younger and skinnier?

For cuttings I use the thicker more established grow shoots. Be sure you make a good clean cut, and make sure you don't bruise it in any way. That was my problem in the beginning after I noticed I was using weaker shoots and bruising I was able to change my method and now I usually have a 100% success rate.
Some strains root better with less N so maybe a good flush before taking cuts will do the trick.
Hope this helps.
SGT.
