    #335932 - 12/24/09 02:45 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

Well I know aluminum gives off carcinogenic fumes when burned, brass tastes like shit, and stainless steel is just a bit harsh but I don't know if I've ever actually heard of any health risks with smoking from stainless steel so long as it isn't coated with anything.

I LOVE hotkniving it's my favorite method of smoking hash by far. It really would be a shame if they turned out to be dangerous. I know that titanium is perfectly fine to heat up maybe we could just find some titanium hot-knives? That'd be :awesome:

but any glass that gets hot at that temp is too soft to use practically i'd think

:bored:

don't know about metals but i use stainless knives and don't notice anything different. we also have a pair of glass paddles, thats what they head shops call em anyways i call em cumbersome. they have to be thick to not crack so they take forever on a stove. if you torch them you could deform them so thats out. and then when your done you have to let them cool slowly or they will crack.

best thing i have seen by far was a guy who had a long pair of scissor style tongs with titanium plates on the pincher part.

we have a set they are easy to find in Oregon head shops but i havn't seen em in Cali.

they just arne't as easy or fast as metal. gotta heat up slowly and cool down slowly or the paddle head will crack.

and if you get a set don't buy the ones with dimples in the paddle face it makes your hit burn uneven and you gotta F with it to get it all burnt. just get a pair that sits nice and flat, ours have marble feet.

Never seen anyone do it like that but I can see how that makes doing it without the assistance of a friend a lot easier.

One of my friends had a way of hitting hash I had never seen before.  They would take a glass bottle, break a small chunk out of the bottom, put a small piece of hash on a cig cherry, and then collect that smoke in the bottle.

Then I moved in with a roommate who would do something similar to hemostats.  Chop off the bottom of a plastic bottle, stick a pin through a piece of cardboard, stick a small chunk of hash on the pin and light it, then cup the hash with the bottle and let it fill with smoke.  When it's done you unscrew the top and suck the smoke out.  It worked fairly well and helped you conserve if you need to.

yup, same method except you use a glass jar instead of water bottle.  I enjoyed smoking it that way when I just wanted a hit or two, think it tastes better then torching it with a lighter in a bowl.
