indoor soil grow

Okay, I've tried to search on this, and I'm finding mixed messages here, I need some advice from the more experience indoor soil growing population out there...
My 6 plants that made the first cut of 12 initial seeds started are doing really well in the moisture control/worm casting mixture I am using. I have used bat guano as fertilizer and light foliar feeding alternating applications. I have 6 plants that are about 20-24 inches tall, and have around 16 sets of branches along the length of the stalk. One plant I can already tell it a female, but the other five are not showing the telltale signs yet. I would like to know if this is normal, and when should I reduce the lighting schedule, from 24/7 on at the moment, to a "night time" flowering schedule. I am using a variety of flourescent lights and the plants are doing well. temperature is at 78 degrees, humidity is low.
I've basically grown outdoors and really can't find any bonafide hard facts on when to start these "girls" flowering indoors.
Thanks for the help in advance people...

I should have included when I started the plants.
If memory serves me right, I had nice sprouts and I kept the best 6 plants I have now and they were started October 5th. so it's been almost 40 days with 24/7 light.
what light pattern should I switch too...? ease them into it at 18/6 for a week and then 16/8 a week and then finish with 12/12??? Like I said, I am new to indoors.

Go straight to 12/12

cut lights back. keep clones from all females (clearly label where each clone came from). Keep the clones from the fastest finishing, highest yielding, best tasting, and most potent plant as your mother. Then watch closely as your enjoyment increases! Also, im curious to know how you can tell the sex before cutting the lights back?

One of my plants clearly has two pistils coming off of four to five sets of nodes (branches). I don't understand how only one out of six can do this either.... but I'll tell you with my own eyes, it's true.
I'll try and get photos posted.

okay, I cannot seem to get the camera to adjust right with all the lighting and stuff, but I assure you that the one plant definately has pistils.
I am switching my plants to 12/12 tonight, and we'll see what happens from here....

It is very possible to have pistils before flowering, they are called pre-flowers and your one lucky person

So pre flowers are a good thing then I presume?
I'm hoping to have these girls, if they all turn out to be girls, finished by christmas for gifts for friends... I'm afrain I won't be able to cure properly though which is a bummer.

I dont think you stand much of a chance to get them totally done by christmas, but I have been wrong before.

okay, so I have 4 females out of the six plants that made the final cut.
They're starting to look lovely, with nice long pistils and really bright green foliage. Should make for a decent smoke.

I have another question about my four plants indoors...
What are the optimal daytime and nighttime temperature settings at during flowering?
