Organic Indoors?

If I were growing outdoors, there wouldn't be any question about growing organically, but I understand that using organic soil indoors just invites pests and mold and whatnot in an otherwise sterile environment? Does anyone think its worth growing organically indoors?

True organics have a lot of activity...beneficial bacteria, nematodes, worms, fungus, etc. They all strike a balance to keep harmful pests at bay. Chances are, you won't have a true organic ecosystem in your soil, so if you're doing a non-synthetic grow with commercial organic products, and you're buying nutrient solutions, etc you'll need a way to protect your plants. Neem oil sprays throughout the veg cycle should do the trick. As you go forward, you can experiment with other methods instead: things like ladybugs, predator mites, nematodes in the soil, fungal and bacterial teas...all of these things can help prevent pests in an indoor organic grow.

Very informative, thanks a lot man. I think I'm just going to use a sterilized pro-mix or possibly a soilless mix, I'd always been planning on using ladybugs and praying mantises. During an outdoor grow a few years ago I got a massive spider mite infestation and just one release of 1500 live ladybugs for like 15 bucks literally took care of it overnight.

yep, they are hungry little bitches. They can't handle big infestations in a short time, but if you catch it early, they'll decimate aphid/mites quickly.

Yeah thankfully that grow only had 6 plants.
