Do I put some type of cloth covering like a cut up cutton shirt between the screen and exhaust?

You're wanting to make it so you don't see steam coming out, like hot air into cold type of situation??

Well that's what I'm getting at. If he lives in a cold climate and has warm air that he's venting out then it's pretty difficult.
Where is this window located in relation to visibility to public, i.e. facing the street or alley type of thing. Is this window boarded up with ply wood?? How much air are you putting through it, CFM's???

Fuck shit. I wasn't even thinking about this. I was just thinking about seeing the exhaust. Unfortunately this window - it faces the street. with lots of visibility. 4 floors up though. but buildings face directly this apartment. across the street.

I don't remove my window acs over the winter...
I don't see the difference in venting through a window ac shell or venting through a laundry exhaust vent or a hole cut in a piece of wood jammed into your window frame... other than aesthetics.

Yeah I agree. If it looks professionally done, eg. hole in the glass with a ventilation grill over it, I wouldn't give it a second look regardless of whether or not it looks good. That said, I know that would be difficult.

Is there some kind of material that will block light and eyes but still let large amounts of air out?

would it be better to exhaust in room and then leave the window open a little? i'm worried about the hot air going into cold air and the steam coming from the window wouldn't look a little off?

You could always just exhaust it to a different room in the house.
At least that's what I do in the winter time.

Using up all the co2 in your house is retarded. (By not exhausting outside and using co2 depleted air inside your house)
Intake from outside unless ur in an apartment + Exhaust goes outside = key.

Try it and see what happens.
It's not like it's going to be a drier vent.

My fresh air comes from outside just so you know.
Exhausting the hot co2 depleted air back into the house saves on the heating bill greatly.
I save more on the heating bill, than it cost to run the grow room itself.
I wouldn't call that retarded by any means.

so you're basically using the lamps and the heat in general to heat your house?

Yes.
And it's much cheaper than the heating unit by far.

Unless your natural gas is insanely priced which I highly doubt. I think your useless eyes aren't reading the heating bill properly.
You're not going to save money on heating running a light bulb. Fuck, I'd move to Alaska install an electric heater, never use it and just grow weed year round.
Well I guess maybe not if you have like a 2' high ceiling, and like 3 times the recommended insulation which I'm sure you don't.

I use an eletric heater, no natural gas around these parts that I know of, and yes the eletric bill does drop when I'm growing by about 40 dollars compared to when I'm not growing.
Oddly enough my house and grow room stay the same temps too.
Around 65 to 72 degrees.

Unless your heated is very ineffective, not an oil filled heater. Your lights won't put out heat effectively enough to drop your bill.
