seriously MODS, start a sticky for computer help.
i alone could keep the thread alive, and then ppl wouldnt be duped into looking at new threads by me bitchin about how much i suck at computers!
ANYWAY:
-im tryin to get all my pictures onto a DVD-RW.
-ive done this on my laptop, but my desktop wont allow me to format my disk.
-i went to my CDdrive(D:) in "my computer" and loaded all the pics into that folder and clicked "write these files to cd" over on the left...and it says insert a writeable disk, when IT KNOWS DAMN WELL I HAVE A WRITEABLE DISK IN THERE !!!!! 
help me out stoner nerds, i need your expertise

What is a DVD-RW ?

CD drives don't do DVD, if that's the issue.

i have a dvd drive on the tower. so i puttttted in the dvd-rw(andy its a dvd thats re-writeable)
so how do i get all my pictures(data) onto the dvd-rw. like i said, i did it with my laptop, all i had to do was go into my computer and format it. but its not givin me that option

You'll have to show me what these DVD-RW's look like.
As far as I know, there's only DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD-Ram.

But does your laptop have a DVD drive? And if so, Is it a DVD-R or just DVD?
Also, there are two DVD formats as I recall, DVD+R and DVD-R, check to make sure your disks and drive are the same.

yes the laptop has a dvd drive too. (by dvd drive im assuming you mean on the disk slot it says DVD on it)
i only knew how to format on the laptop cuz it was given to me as an instruction. so i assumed i could do the same thing with my desktop...

If it only says DVD, and not DVD+R or DVD-R or something like that, then it can't write to the disk. Also, since the disk is +R, your laptop would not be able to write to it if it's a DVD-R drive.

That's the first time I've seen DVD+RW.
How are those different from RVD-Ram disks?

i use Nero.
but i just havent tried it for this.
its my DESKTOP that only says DVD on the drive, nothin more. can i burn it with Nero still?
or does it mean i cant burn this type of CD PERIOD?

- Exactly what kind of media you're trying to record to
- How much data are you trying to burn

-DVD standard
-pictures and a few sk8 videos
-almost 2000 MB
alright, i tried Nero, and i cant burn a data dvd.
but i can burn a data cd. but it only allows 700MB, can i just overload it with my 2000 MB worth of data? BCUZ I HAVE A 4.7 GB DVD in THE DRIVE???
or will it shit on me during burning?
