I love these little guys. Easy to grow, and they look pretty cool too! I started two new plants from seed a few weeks ago, and have quite a few more seeds I aim to get goin' here pretty soon. Any peppers springin' up in your garden?
geo did you specifically prune that habanero plant to grow straight up before branching out into a little canopy?
i really like that shape, and how the peppers hang down into the empty space below. i am thinking of trying to achieve that with the 3 habanero seedlings i have going now.
I acquired that habanero as a seedling, so I did not do the pruning. But it seems like whomever did grow that one, waited for it to gain a little height before topping it (chopping off the central stalk), and then topped two of the off-shoots again, making the nifty bonsai shape that the plant is in.

So what do you do with those? Plug em?
Nah. I often take the habaneros as a party gag, once we're all nice and sauced, and try to get someone to eat a chunk, then amusing myself with the hilarity that ensues. That, or just add 'em into any one of the many cooking experiences I entrench myself into daily.
The li'l fucker dug straight down to the roots and nibbled plenty of leaves.
I checked all the nooks and crannies of the house, couldn't figure out what it was. Vacuumed, and I found this guy in the house (whom I dumped outside, where this pic was taken)...
But the next morning the plants were chewed up again! I finally caught this cute li'l mouse with a glue trap. Had the displeasure of severing his brain stem the next morning (as I didn't want him to starve or overheat to death in the garbage can).
In honor of fallen mouse, I picked up this healthy jalapeno plant from the local nursery.
Thanks for keeping up and sharing your pictures Yrat!
Here's a long overdue update on those pepper plants I started so many moons ago. Some good news, some not so good...
I'll start with the beautiful Bolivian Rainbow. The peppers begin with a small flash of green but quickly turn purple.
Next stop they begin to lighten and transform to an orange hue.
At this point the peppers start to deepen in color again, finishing a deep bright red.
Some creatures make this colorful foilage their home.
Some not so benign creatures (aphids) unfortunately made my Sweet Crimson plant their home
Also unfortunately, some of my other guys got hit with this nastyness. Not sure what it is (would love to know!); couldn't find any evidence of bugs on the plant when this happened.
A nutrient problem, perhaps?
But in the end, the plant has persevered to bloom again and again!
You may also remember the Hot Lemon Pepper I had started. Here are her delicate flowers.
Here she is all grown up:
Wouldn't want to forget about the Sweet Crimson. Ultimately, some strong winds knocked this one down, snapping its main stem.
At least I managed to get a taste of it first! (and I still have some seeds )
And last but certainly not least, the Thai Sun Pepper. This guy pumps out an unbelievable amount of tiny potent peppers. Beginning green and finishing red.
Here's a small heap of a haul, mixed green and red jalapenos along with some Thai Sun's.
