Damn animals topped my babies

I checked in the on the seedlings outside. 2 of the 8 remaining got bit. Right under there leaves an animal of some sort chomped on them. The leaves are hanging on by a thread.
Cut the leaves off (they're hanging on from a thread looking as if they'll only shrivel and die)? Then the seedlings will recover their leaves and only be delayed? Or are they completely fucked?
Also what keeps birds away? Or what else would take a tiny chomp on my babies. A deer couldn't do damage this delicate. I've seen birds and chipmunks in the surrounding area.

depending on how old your plants are they may recover. depending on how extensive the damage is as well. some small holes from bugs are normal and your plant should be resiliant enought to bounce back from that. the leaves your talking about are they the frist set?(one leaf)

The very first ones that formed. There were 2 pairs one rounded one more pointy. They weren't big they were very small leaves.

You might just want to start over and cut your losses. Those are very young. You are talking about small small seedlings. Just germ some more and you will be fine.

If you think its a mouse or rabbit put chicken wire around it.When its larger and deer are eating on it. Piss all around it and the deer will disappear.
