Coco Coir question
    #225140 - 05/11/09 10:20 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

Hey all, I have a 3 pack of Coco Coir bricks leftover from my cube cultivation and I was wondering if any of you have experience using non-agricultural coir for growing.

The brand is Zoo Med Eco Earth

I know coir can be used as a medium but I have also read that it is fairly acidic. I'm low on funds right now and using the 30L of coir would be much cheaper than buying the equivalent soil.

I have at my disposal some crushed oyster shell and quick lime. What would you guys suggest to counter the (possible) acidity of the coir?

Unfortunately I don't have access to pH test strips or I'd figure it out myself.

Any input is appreciated

I'd do it, infact i did it for some pepper and tomatoes that i put into pots. I used verm sand and coco coir brick and a pinch of comfrey. If your worried about ph i'd use some lime or something sure.
