soil question, comparison to coco coir etc

Hello,
I'd like to know how do decaying leaves and organic matter in general, comprised humus, compare to coco coir or peat as growing medium in pots.
I've read that, based on same volume, coco coir seems to support 2x the roots that peat would, so I'm wondering if decaying organic matter, leaf litter, would make a replacement.
Thank you

No, that would invite all sorts of problems. Bugs and mold, good and bad. I think it would be a VERY bad idea.

seconded. coir is so cheap and easy to work with, id just stick with it.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

I see would compost/humus-rich soil be acceptable since it is already decayed and won't shift pH as much?
