so far what i read is that when i put the bud in the jar i need to open it 15min in the morning and 15min at night and to circulate the buds(move around) so mold doesnt grow.
but i also read they need something to feed off of while in the jar?
could they feed off of household items like fruit or something?

They don't need anything to "feed" off of. You basically do as you said; loosely pack buds into glass jar. Open a couple times a day to exchange air, and circulate the buds around a bit. The only time you ever add anything else to a curing jar, is if there is almost no moisture left in the buds, you need to put something like an orange/lemon peel or a wet bud into the jar so that it will bring the moisture content back up.

and i also heard when you do that it adds a little bit of a citrus scent and flavor to it.....but i was only told that, i never used a fruit peel myself...

It works to an extent. I tried it myself on the last batch.
