Odor Control

I'm thinking of having 1 or 2 plants in a closet. For odor control does anyone have experience with one of these? Does this look like it will work?

I know a carbon scrubber would be best, but I am tight on money.

I'm looking for a canister with a fan attached, an all in one unit. The cheapest I've seen is $100+.
