Noob Query About Soil, Verm./Perlite, and Nute Supps.

So from what I am reading, there seems to be a lot of really solid feedback about Happy Frog and Fox Farm Ocean Forest brand soils. I have also found several people here and elsewhere who said their favorite soil is to mix the two 50/50. So I went out and bought a bag of each. I will try each of them separately, and a 50/50 mix of the two during my first grow.
I am finding less clarity on is the matter of aerating the soil with either vermiculite or perlite. Is that necessary? Or will the soil do just fine on its own without supplementation of verm or perlite?
Also, should I be supplementing the soil with any other nutes, or are those soils pretty dandy right out of the bag.

Good questions, Dr. Penguin seems to be a fan of both happy frog and ocean forest so he would be the best one to ask. I am using mericale grow and it SUCKS!!!!! so good thing you arent using that. As per the perlite I would put some in if it doesnt have any in it already. Good luck with the grow I'm sure other people will be helping you out on this one.

Yeah, that cat seems really solid. I have already bummed his plans for an inexpensive grow tent. He was the first person to post on another thread I started about some other questions. If people here are half as helpful as the shroomery guys are ('cept for the occcasional boob here and there of course); then I am pretty sure I will be cooking with gas shortly!

Yeah people on here seem to be pretty helpful just be sure to look up things before you ask (which you already seem to be doing) and they dont slam you to bad haha, but yea are you gonna make a grow journal?

Yeah, I think I will. I think they are kind of a pain in the ass if you do 'em right. I have done a couple of 'em....but one that was really, really detailed on the shroomery. It was definitely helpful to me for future projects.

Miracle Grow contains an insouble form of nitrogen that mutates plants and pot just happens to be more suseptable to these problems. Pretty much all high nitrogen feeding plants get this problem, especially corn and sugar cane.

I keep reading, but this issue just doesn't seem to get addressed real well. The passing references I find to it range from nothing at all - to about thirty percent (by volume) perlite. If I don't hear anything, I guess I will start out with about fifteen percent addition of perlite and see what happens. I suppose I can't really hurt anything with perlite.

Nope, too much perlite just means you'll be growing more like hydro than soil.... not a bad thing by any means.
