Hey everyone! I was hoping you could help me. The info that I'm looking for is this.
I'm working with a PL 1000w HPS lamp. What I don't know is how deep that light will penetrate into the canopy. I've read 4ft? So does that mean 4ft minus the distance to the lamp? Meaning how tall can I grow my plants before I start to see diminishing returns? I want to grow them as big as the lamp will penetrate to the lower branches to produce decent buds down there.
I was also planning on implementing an air-cooled housing and a light rail. Planning on a 4ft x 5ft or 4ft x 6ft area? I figure I can get way closer to the tops with more penetration to lower branches. I just don't know the dimensions or my height limitations.I wasn't planning on pruning much with the exception of lower leaves and branches when necessary. Sort of a large sog.
With that said, what I'm really trying to figure out is the spacing of my plant sites relative to eventual plant height and width. I realize plant height and width fluctuate based on strain so I'm just looking for general measurements that would accommodate a variety of strains.
The site spacing will be fixed forever so I want to get it right the first time.
This to me looks like a real good setup that I would like to emulate.
I can get 3ft of plant height? Without supp lighting, do you think it's worth it to grow that big? If so, what square footage would I need for a plant that size? I've read about 1 square foot each.
If you are doing SOG the rule of thumb is 3ft tall and 4 plants per square foot but I have only been able to do that with strains that create one large main cola.
