ok, so im going to be helping a friend set up their own grow. the space they will be using is 6.5' long x 3.5' wide, and 4.5' high. they want to be able to stick 18 plants in this space, which doesn't seem like it should be too much of a problem, in 1ft square pots. basically is 2 3x3 square areas.
for this space i was thinking 2x400 watt HPS bulbs with air cooled reflectors. 9 plants under each one. of course, a carbon scrubber, intake and exhaust fans too. im thinking that should be enough light to grow some really nice weed.
i was thinking of jumping up to 2x600 watt bulbs and ballasts, but the individual bulbs are quite a bit more expensive. i will be purchasing all of the grow lights myself, and ultimately i don't mind investing a couple hundred more, however is 2x400 watts is plenty, i don't see the point in driving their power bill up if it wont show any real benefits.
Sounds good to me. You could use 1 600W HPS and a light mover. Thats the only other thing I would consider. Given the height restrictions, that may be a good idea for dealing with hot spots.
