If you have reasonable access to them and they are very secluded, you could build a 'cold frame'. It is basically a clear box made of plastic that shelters the plant from the wind and cold. You could build one from some plastic sheets and a pvc skeleton or even get a clear rubber-maid tub. Whatever you do though, make sure you leave at least a crack for air exchange.
Real damage would only occur if it drops below freezing for a while. A light frost will not do much if any harm to your plants, they are very hardy. If you just need something cheap and effective for only the coldest nights you could try watering the plant very well and then wrapping 2-3 blankets around a tomato cage like you said; the water makes it harder to cool off the ground around your plant and the blanket helps hold and trap any heat that the ground would release. Just remember to remove the blanket in the morning.
