Re: Pepper Plants [Re: juke adro]

i cant really grow peppers at my place cause my patio/deck is too shady. But a couple of my friends are growing some pretty cool peppers like tiny purple jalapenos, 5 different jalapeno varieties, a bunch of serranos, several habanero varieties, etc. Peppers are very genetically diverse so you can grow so many different kinds, it's pretty neat.

another reason peppers are great to grow is each pepper has a shit ton of seeds in it for the next season, or to give your buddies. I'm not sure why anyone buys mature plants at nurseries seeing as how it's more rewarding to grow everything you need from seed, and way cheaper. I've even sprouted pepper seeds I found in a really good local salsa I had. just washed it off and dried it, pepper popped right up, so I have the exact same pepper used in the salsa. im a nerd, sorry.

you're doing better than me on germination rate on the bhut jalokia. i have recieved 20 seeds from the chile pepper institute over the past year or so and am yet to get one to germinate. It sucks.

I just planted another 10 all are now nice little seedlings, PM me and I will send you a couple, the thing is to not plant them too deep just sprinkle some dirt over them and keep moist, they cant seem to pop through too much soil.

Thanks for keeping up and sharing your pictures Yrat!

Here's a long overdue update on those pepper plants I started so many moons ago.
Some good news, some not so good...

I'll start with the beautiful Bolivian Rainbow.
The peppers begin with a small flash of green but quickly turn purple.

Next stop they begin to lighten and transform to an orange hue.

At this point the peppers start to deepen in color again, finishing a deep bright red.

Some creatures make this colorful foilage their home.

Some not so benign creatures (aphids) unfortunately made my Sweet Crimson plant their home :undecided:

Also unfortunately, some of my other guys got hit with this nastyness.  Not sure what it is
(would love to know!); couldn't find any evidence of bugs on the plant when this happened.

A nutrient problem, perhaps?

But in the end, the plant has persevered to bloom again and again!

You may also remember the Hot Lemon Pepper I had started. Here are her delicate flowers.

Here she is all grown up:

Wouldn't want to forget about the Sweet Crimson.  Ultimately, some strong winds knocked this one down, snapping its main stem. :frown:

At least I managed to get a taste of it first! (and I still have some seeds  )

And last but certainly not least, the Thai Sun Pepper.  This guy pumps out an
unbelievable amount of tiny potent peppers.  Beginning green and finishing red.

Here's a small heap of a haul, mixed green and red jalapenos along with some Thai Sun's.

I love peppers! :fire:

was it damaged on both sides of the leaf? if so, i would bet it was some type of leaf-burrowing insect. probably long past this point, but in the future you can just crush them inside the leaf with your fingers if you find more. if it was damaged on one side, then i would agree with a snail or slug as your culprit.
