people always say this.
there is no such thing is a computer that will still be good in 5 years.
buy a medium-high end range where the budget is signifigantly lower for competitive products. than upgrade every 8-12 months.

i was just speaking to the idiots who go out and buy the top of the line shit that depreciates to 60% it's original value within 2 months.
and technology is going at an even fast rate. these next 2 years will yield some major changes in the concpt and purpose of pcs.

yeah, formatting.
but you have to spend the time to find out who makes your video card, network card, sound chipset and anything else windows might not pick up on it's own.
it's actually pretty easy and if you want i'd be happy to walk ya through it.
i do it to every computer I buy (assuming I dont build).
final advice: stay away from compaq, read internet reviews of models your looking at and there is no reason to break more than $700 to get what you want.
