Ideas for better out come
    #153401 - 11/30/08 11:06 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

This will be my second go at it.

This time I got myself a dead man rental.

Im using a 250 watt MH. With a 3hrs on a 1hr off. 1gph feeding when light is on. My first harvest got lots of feed back most not good, how ever it was great smoke. I would like feed back so this time it will be even better. Here pics first hatvest and new batch.http://

There are three plants in the new batch the one I choose for the pic is almost three times the size of the other two. I dont know why. Only one light for the three I may add another when cloning begins dont know yet. As far as what plant I have no clue I only know is was great bud a quarter lasted me 12days that was the longest a bag went for me this year. I only got three seeds and luckly me they are growing. I did realize that the fan leaves are wider than the others I have tried. And their alot lighter in color. So I was checking to see if some had addive to help me get a better harvest. I using FLORA NOVA feed at one tsp per gallon. Any addive.

Did you say your light was on 3 hours then off for 1 hour...?

Yes that what I said that gives me 18hrs on and 6hrs off with out building much heat. I got that idea from ASK ED in a heads mag I was reading. Is this not good info.

Whats wrong with having heat??

The break in the light cycle bothers me...These plant's rely heavily on the light to tell them what to do. They don't know what the hell 3 hours on and 1 hour off.

I'm not sure...I wouldn't do it, but it looks like it's working fairly well.

Its always worked for me. And I never have problems when I go to flowering in a 12 on 12 off setting. I have read many HEADS MAGS, as well as some books by Edd R. and others who highly reconmemded over say a straight 18 or 24hrs running. The color apeats light and I guess my is more to the feeding I womder if Im over doing it or under.

Oh...Just during vegetative stage...I guess that's fine I have also heard that as well.

Flowering needs to be 12 on non stop, and 12 off. I still like the 18 hours straight for vegging, but whatever works.

And it's always worked for you...The 2 times you have done it?

I suggest doing a grow 18 straight hours, and one with the 3 on 1 off...To see what the results yield. I am curious more than anything.

Well I hate to say but I have tried on more than 2 times. I just made alot of mistakes from pest to overwatering in dirt. And the last was underfeeding in which I did get a harvest it just took way to long due to under feeding and over pruning. I really would like to know how to judge the nutrient level my ph is at 5.8 but I know anymore that 2 tsp appears to harm them. I just read of some add. feeding maybe needed to speed up my growth period. If I could get it right I will be able to invest in some real seeds. Im just trier of mistakes.

dude what im saying is basically plants need " X " amount of uninterrupted darkness when flowering, and 3 on 1 off is a waste, when the plant goes to dark-mode it doesn't have chance to do anything.  Plus your timer is programmed weird.\ lol

I get that but Im not flowering yet. When I go to flowering they go to a different room at which they will be under a 400watt HPS at a time of 12 on and 12 off. I totally veg for now.

My timer is programable but once again the flowering is done in a totally different room.

For those who care want bigger buds that take a bit longer to mature 18 on 12 off. Reg cycle 12/12 and if you need to speed things up and don't care about the sacrifice in yield then 10 on and 12 off. 12 off being the constant for flowering.

Have you actually tried that magash? I had a long talk with my professor who swore up and down that C4 plants cannot work on a non 24 hour cycle (ie: 18 on 12 off). After that conversation I decided not to try it but now I might have too.

I do 18 vegging and 6 off

and

12 on and 12 off for flowering

24 hours straight is too much...I may try 18 on and 12 off next round just to see.

This article from the overgrow archives talks about using 21h 36m on 12h off to increase yields.
I have also tried 13/11 3 weeks into flowering for 4 weeks and the plants kept flowering with no problem. I switched back to 12/12 to let the plants start maturing. I tried this because I had read this article as well as this one.
The only time a 12 hour dark cycle is required for flowering is if you are using a day length of more than 24 hours. If you are using 24 hours a day 10h on 14h off will make your plants mature faster.

Thanks for the good reads. Gives me lots to think about. I may want to play with some of them settings. I keep everyone updated after Im able to take some clones and start flowering.

i think that was discussed in a different thread a while back

12h off is for primo optmal results w/ minimal chance of stressing, meaning dont give it less than 12h uninterrupted...  i never found awkward light cycles to be appealing, i try to stick to the way nature intended it... with a little help from me to give it some juice :omgawesome:

i haven't heard of any outstanding results from exotic or extreme /awkward time cycles.  i like 18/6, but have been running 24/0 for ... eh, to be simple and lazy recently and I also would only do 12/12 when flowering... no more... no less. :x

does that 10/14 really work? i mean, seriously, would this just provide the plant shorter days to make the plant flower shorter as is always concerned about flowering not developing other tings like bountiful trichs & tight calyxes.  in your experience does this cause loose fluffy buds or small yields?

I have never actually done it and wouldn't care to. It seems like it would give inferior results.
