Shorter growth cycle
    #106310 - 08/08/08 04:40 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I want to start a grow and due to my impatience I want to have this grow last from 4-6 weeks.  I'd like your comments on this and if it can be done easily.  I want to grow 4 or 5 bagseed plants using this method.  I don't have a lot of money to tie up in this just yet either.  I do have money aside for the nutrients needed.  I also have verm, peatmoss, miracle grow, calc. carb, gypsum, coco coir, and perlite.  What's the best soil mix to use?  What are the best additives to use considering I want to have a quick grow.  The plants aren't of lowrider genetics or anything, just a few seeds i would occasionally find in a sensimilla sack.  The lights I will be using are TBD as well.  Although I know i will be using fluorescent tubes since that's what i got.  What do you have to say about all this?  Is it a terrible idea to shorten the cycle so dramatically?  Should I expect to have any buds at all after 1 - 1.5 months?

Some with experience may correct me on this, but I think that is completely unrealistic. I'm pretty sure that the 8-9 weeks required for a lot of strains out there are 8-9 weeks after you flip the lighting to 12/12. So you would need some amount of veg time prior to that switch. The 8-9 is for proven genetics that mature within that time frame. So what you are working with may be within that arena or it might be more sativa dominant and take 12-13 weeks. You don't know. The point is that 8-9, 12-13, or some other number is simply the flowering time. You still have to get your plants there to begin with. Also I think Miracle Grow is universally regarded as sub par. Some things if doing, are worth doing right. Maybe you should focus on buying some of the right equipment here and there, cultivating some patience, and then go for it. Rather than a half assed, unrealistic attempt, I think that it would be more worth your while to make a concerted effort with realistic expectations when things are right.

What if your bagseed normally finishes in like 14 weeks or something?

You can get strains that finish in 50 days and then you can shorten that more by playing with the light...

A normal indica flowering period is from 55-65 days, so your flowering period alone would put you above the mark you set.  It's not unrealistic, it's impossible

Alright thanks guys.  I have a lot of respect for your opinions and knew you'd point me in the right direction.  As disappointing as it is.  Hanky you have a pretty good memory.  And i am growing mushies.   I used to do the trade for weed thing, but im going to be moving and i dont know anyone over there.  I will just have to be social i guess and meet some people out by the uni.  I still plan on doing a real legit grow down the road - maybe after the new year holiday.  So in the mean time I will just collect equipment and knowledge.  Thanks guys!

I'd recommend trying out a coco grow, when you do. Its very easy, and you'll have faster growth and better yields if you do it right. Also, don't skimp out on the pH meter. It is definitely an invaluable tool.

A lot of time before you start, like you'll have, is perfect, because you have plenty of opportunity to read and learn, and also to make sure you don't rush into getting the wrong equipment, which will minimize the amount of errors you'll make when you're finally growing (not to mention drive you fucking crazy waiting and the feeling of great accomplishment when your plants are growing ).
