Seedlings and Plant Size

When my seeds germinate I like to peel the shell off the seedling after it cracks open and the main root gets long enough. I do this because I've seen seedlings constricted by a shell that did not come off on its own. Will doing this make the plants smaller than they would normally be if the shell came off naturally? Or do genetics have complete control over plant size and by doing this it's not affecting plant size? Any comments greatly appreciated.

i to have peeled off some seed shells that were not comin off on thier own.. unless you harm the young plant when doing this then no i dont think it effects the growth...
genetics as well as nutes ,air exchage, temp and light account for growth speed:)

just don't do it too early and they should be fine. If you're peeling the seed when they're showing nothing but tap -root then you're probably damaging them a little, but if they've already rooted and raised the seed above the soil on their own I don't see any problem.

they will shell eventually. but im sure weve all helped them out a little.
just be sure to use some tweezers or something other than your hand. not great to get your oils all over that little seedling.

I agree with JM, don't touch it with your hands.
or just watch if there's any inconsistencies in the way the seeds are sprouting
