Is there a way to use a squirrel cage inline?
    #134091 - 10/18/08 09:16 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

this may be a dumb question.... If you had a 1000cfm squirrel cage blower laying around is there a way you could use it in a duct system that is pulling fresh air from one room, going through the attic and splitting it having one split going to a 6" air cooled light that then goes outside and the other split pouring fresh air into the room? I could draw up a diagram if I need to.

It may work but I don't know how well. That is if I fully get what your plan is.

Yes, that will work fine. Try to get a square (squirrel cage) to 8" or 12" adapter.  Next, get an 8" or 12" respectively, 'Y' adapter and hook up your ducting. Smell will be a problem with this solution as the room will have positive pressure, be warned.

so there should be more exhaust than intake?

I think I changed my mind, what about this scenario:

8" Can Filter->8" Inline Fan->6" Reducer->2 or 3 600s->Outside

Will the 2 CH/A vents in the room bring in enough fresh air you think? Should I run a smaller fresh air line in?

That is a much more efficient use of your fan power. If you have an extremely high cfm rated fan you might need an active intake but just a vent from the outside connected to some flex ducting should serve your purpose well enough, just make sure you put a filter on it.

Why would the intake need a filter? Or am I misunderstanding the last part.

Not a carbon filter, but a mesh dust/insect/pest filter if the intake is coming from outside. I use a furnace filter.

i've used panty hose before and the panty hose ended up getting sucked through the ducting and fucking up fan.
