5 Gallon Bucket

My babies are growing up so fast and I want to transplant them one last time to their final homes. I want to use a 5 gallon bucket for each plant hoping for bigger, better yields.
I would like to know what the best way of doing this is. I have some hydroton, some peatmoss, some vermiculite, and some miracle grow. What would be the best way to use the supplies I have? Layering? Thanks!

This thread was moved from Marijuana Cultivation.
Reason: More appropriate for the Soil Cultivation forum since the topic is concerning soil mixes.

well, i would take some hydroton and place a layer of it on the bottom of the bucket to promote good drainage. I'd go out and buy a 7 liter bag of perlite if i were you. Then i would create a 60/40 mixture of MG to perlite for a soil grow. You can throw in some peat or verm if you want to fluff up the mix a bit but i wouldn't go too crazy with it.

I have some perlite. I read just recently that you shouldnt use hydroton on the bottom for some reason?

I read something like that too, although it was specifically for people growing in coco. Can't quite recall why, something about the roots needing that space or something... probably that it doesn't need help with drainage...

yeah
clay pebbles in the bottom = awesome drainage
I would invest some money in a perlite / non miracle grow soil mix.
Fox farm is great soil
you could make a reasonably priced soil, worm casting, bat guano, perlite and coco mix that would preform optimally.

the soil is made cheaply
commonly has bug eggs in it
most miracle grow soils have time released fertilizers that are unideal for growing cannabis in.
not organic (assuming it has chemical fertilizers)
(hydroton would be fine in the bottom of your soil for drainage but perlite would work also. it's nice to have at least a couple inches of perlite/clay so your soil doesn't come out your drainage holes.)

That interesting you say about the eggs because when I had mushrooms and MJ in the same room I got a mad infestation of gnats in my mushroom tub.

I don't know what your setup was like. It's possible they hatched from your soil and prefered the mushrooms. :S
