What is your favorite design for a cabin?
Do you think you could build it from raw timber?

It's not the most popular design, but it's def my favorite.
4 walls and a roof with a door and a few windows.

I drive an hour and a half to work. But I have property 25 minutes away from my job. I am thinking of going to build a hovel with a wood stove that I can camp out in. Maybe even a flat roof for now. Mud for chink. Saddle notched.

That would be cool if you don't mind living alone..
If it was just me I'd def do something like that. I'm all about simplicity and comfortability.

Nice little pic there.
I will have a proper one brought in come spring, but as for now I could use a place to sleep warm and close to work.
I'm getting a small Amish cabin in the spring. Keeping the taxes low as fuck. A place to cache away.
Indeed, a truck. It's an hour walk back to the property on foot from the main road. Gravel and unplowed roads. A truck could do it though -- or most of it.

well for one thing, I have chronic panic attacks and restless legs, so its heavily discouraged to drive as it is very unsafe for me. my parents cant be driving me around all the time, and the bus is a pain in the ass.

Yea man.
Like 100 or 200 acres.
If you leave most of if on the tree program in Maine, the taxes are drastically reduced. Then just use 5 acres for your homestead.
Since I have been developing this land, I have started to change my mind about how many large structures I want to build. This because of tax reasons. Every structure that is bigger than 10 x 10 needs a permit and will increase the land taxes.
It's bullshit that I will build a barn with my own hands and they will tax me because it's larger than 10 x 10.
The barn and the cabin will be permits. Fucking state all up in our business. GTFO
