Hi I am new here!
Hello, so when cooking off the alcohol in the rice cooker there was some crunchy black things at the bottom of the pot and there was a slight “vape” smell in the air. Thought the rice cooker wouldn’t get too hot to damage the oil. Did the oil get overcooked? Only heated it untill all bubbles stopped, never heard a crackling sound, please help Thankyou *all directions for rso were followed exactly Please help!

It's possible you overcooked it, I've never used a rice cooker for RSO so I can't say for sure. I evaporate the alcohol off in a 2 cup pyrex measuring cup on a paper towel in a pot of water over the stove. The only time I've experienced what you described is when I accidentally let the water run out.
Nowadays I rarely draw the RSO up into a syringe, so I'm alright with a tiny amount of alcohol left in the oil. I end up mixing the RSO with coconut oil and lecithin right away, and storing it in a dropper vial so I can get the dosage right before I make capsules.

Thanks for the reply. A couple drops of water were splashed in while the solvent was evaporating, so maybe that’s what the crunchy is. Also a full gram of oil was loaded into a capsule and nothing no feeling at all. Could the oil not be properly decarbed? Is there a way to tell if the oil is decarbed?

No way to tell without a lab test. I would think a gram of RSO would leave your head spinning, to have no effect would mean it's either all still THCa or more likely that it has degraded into CBN.
I'd imagine that making RSO with something like a Source Turbo would be the best option for maintaining maximum THC levels.

Well shoot should the oil be thrown into the oven around 180 and just let it sit for a good 30mins?

Proper decarb for flower is 240º F for 40 minutes, idk how that works with RSO. Also, the batch may be beyond recovery. If after a decarb it is still not active, I'd call it a loss.

Man, I’d hate for this batch to be bunk...are you suggesting decarbing the oil at 240 for 40 mins, I know you suggested that for flowers but shouldn’t it work on the oil?

It might work on the oil, if it's THCa oil. But I'm thinking it's already degraded into CBN oil. Still, doesn't hurt to try.
