Jiffy Peat block...
    #8327 - 04/22/08 11:05 AM (16 years, 8 months ago)

Well, ive got a seed to sproud from a jiffy peat block. Those ones you can get from a tray in walmart...Well..The seed should grow up, an then fall off right? Well..It almost looks like the root is growing up....It's weird. The seed is still in the peat. The root or whatever is growing up is still curled a little bit. I remember last time that I grew them out of these, the seeds fell off the top and there were leaves...Did this shit get turned upside down or something? Anything I can do? Or just plant some more.

the root will grow down, and the seed-encased leaves will grow up... unless you have built an anti-gravity machine under your peat tray. The seed portion is most likely just stuck in the peat still. Give it another day or two and it will raise its little head and pop the seed coat off. Don't get antsy and try to pull it off, you could damage the seedling. It will fall off on it's own time.

It doesn't seem like there are any leaves or anything on the tip. I'll give it a little more time. Thanks. Just got a bit nervous.

are you saying the tip looks like a root? with no seed attached or anything? Most of the time when a seedling first emerges it will have both ends still in the soil and will look like a little loop of stem.

You should plant a few more anyways because your one plant could turn out to be male and you'll have to start over.

Alright. Sounds good. Thanks for the help. I'm new to cultivating this wonderful herb. Lol. Any other tips or suggestions? I'm trying to learn everything I can.

Check out that thread. There's a really cool way to cheaply supply your plants with CO2. Sugar-water and yeast! They say you can make your own alcohol from it afterwards too.

What about lighting? Are you keeping them in the dark lol? This could happen in that scenario.

They were in the dark at first. They are in the light now.

Don't put them in the dark.
