Here's the place to discuss our more affordable options for lighting, CFLs. post your setup, your bulb's color temperature, lumen per watt ratio etc. pros and cons, where to find deals, more efficient bulbs...
i'll start with my veg. lights:
2 x GE 26W 6500K 1600 lumens each = 61.5 lummens/watt
used for an approximately 2x2x2 space, no problems...

Are all CFL's the little bulb with the crazy shapes, or do they have long tubes that could be housed in something like this, an under cabinet fixture?
My friend has a cabinet about two feet long by a foot and a half wide, little doors on the front and everything, probably about two feet tall as well, and he's thinking it would be perfect for clones. He was planning on going with regular fluorescents, but if something like that is available for CFL's, that would be even better.

They can also look like this 105Watt CFL that puts out 7600 Lumens.

these T5's have a high lumen output, much more than normal flourescents.
http://www.littlegreenhouse.com/accessory/lights2.shtml
With 8000 lumens and 4 lights it runs at $125. Worth it though, uses little power and are perfect for vegging especially easy with heat issues.

I use a 125W CFL. It works great. It came with my hydofarm hood (plug n play). I think I will be switching to a 200W shortly.
I think that they are great for closet grows because of the low level of heat. A big plus is that my hood and light cost $130 brand spankin new.
Anyhow, I have had great results in my 8.5 sq ft closet. CFLs are geat for people on a budget.
MY FIRST POST HERE! YAY!

Its true the buds aren't huge, but 2.5 oz is 2.5 oz any way you figure it. Who gives a shit if I don't have 10 inch buds. My longest one was probably about 8. I would say the average (main) bud tops are around 4 inches. I think that is just fine.

And....
Dont you breakup your weed before you throw it in your bowl or roll a joint? popcorn bud is better than no bud, and its sure as hell better than handcuffs.
Stealthier grow, smaller risk, ease of mind, decent pot... What's the problem?

I ran t-12's for veg for a long while. Just got a chance to try out a T-5 bank and im now a believer. Soon as i have room for a veg cab im purchasing a bank for T-5's and some bulbs. Low heat, high lumen output, and happy plants. Can't beat that!

So I was scoping out CFLs in the store the other day, and I saw a 42 watt one, and the package says it puts out 2700 lumens. It got the old gerbil wheel spinning in my head, and I thought, what if you made a concave scrog, bowl shaped to fit around that bulb with about a 3-4 inch gap? I did a little quick math and figured it would come out to roughly 1.3 sf. If it worked, that set up could put out an oz +/- each cycle. The question is, would it work?
