mh vs hps

how much better is switching to hps for flowering?
I read that using metal halide completely will have nearly identical results with your dense buds being denser... less fluffy/pop corn buds too.
you also wouldn't be hassled switching lights
at a local hydroponics shop a mh and hps almost cost the same price (220 for a 1000w or so and 280-300 for a 600w - thats for the bulb and ballast) a conversion bulb is 140 for either I believe so you may as well buy a bulb + ballast)
im unsure as to what I will purchase.

HPS provides the spectrum cannabis uses for it's flowering cycle. MH halide lights have the spectrum ideal for veg.
Both will work just fine, MH lights have the advantage of producing UVB light which increases trichrome production.
If you have the money i'd buy both. If you want to you can buy a convertible ballast and the appropriate bulbs. If you're strapped for cash just buy the HPS.

no, it will work ok. It just won't produce the optimal light spectrum for flowering. There are a lot of oldschool growers who swear by MH lights.

hps would probably be the best bet for me anyways. I want to do a SoG or SCRoG grow.
thanks

get a switchable ballast.... Best of both worlds!!!
especially if you wanna do a SoG or SCRoG grow.
just using just a HPS will stretch your plants out, you wanna try to keep them under 3feet with a SoG or SCRoG grow.

how do switchable ballasts compare to conversion bulbs cost/effeciency wise?
I think on a 400w hps if u use a mh conversion bulb your down to 350-360w.

Xtrasun 400 watt Halide Ballast = Suggested Retail: $129.95
I've never used retro fit lights so cant help ya there. I think I paid 250 for my 1000watt xtrasun convertible.
