Detectives seize 9 pounds of marijuana, ‘wax,’ guns and cash (updated with pictures)

An East Hempfield Township man is charged with several felonies regarding a major marijuana-dealing operation uncovered at his home.

Lancaster County Drug Task Force detectives found more than 9 pounds of marijuana, marijuana “wax,” and evidence of a growing operation at David Victor Irwin’s home in the 3100 block of Nolt Road, according to the county district attorney’s office. The home is just off Centerville Road, near Centerville Middle School and the Four Seasons Golf Course.

Irwin, 21, had been making monthly trips to Oregon and California where he bought the drugs and shipped them to Lancaster.

“The most concerning thing about marijuana and marijuana dealing is the misperception that it’s not dangerous,” Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman said in a press release Wednesday. “There are astronomical profits being made dealing marijuana, so dealers are arming up.

In this raid, the detectives discovered more than $50,000 in cash and assets related to Irwin’s drug trade, the release states.

Irwin recently was ordered to stand trial on three felony counts of drug-dealing. A bondsman posted Irwin’s $100,000 bail.

Detectives surveilled Irwin’s home and in a raid last month seized $10,195 in cash and:

• More than 9 pounds of marijuana with an approximate street value of $27,000.

• About 140 grams of marijuana “wax,” with a street value of $11,200. Wax is a more pure form of THC (the active component in marijuana), thus making it much more powerful, according to detectives.

• A Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15 assault rifle and a Glock 19 9mm handgun.

• Paraphernalia related to drug sales, usage and storage.

Also, a walk-in closet had been converted into a grow room, where detectives found evidence of harvested plants.

Irwin had been traveling out west for several months. Detectives said he sent some of the packages to his mother’s home in Landisville. She has not been charged.
