VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Deputies in Van Buren County have arrested two people after a traffic stop uncovered a stash of drugs in a diaper bag.
It happened around 3:30 Thursday on 52nd Ave west of CR 665 in Paw Paw Township.
Deputies say they pulled a vehicle because it had a brake light out. When they confronted the 33-year-old driver they say he appeared to be intoxicated and smelled of marijuana.
The deputies searched the vehicle and found 58 grams of marijuana, 4.5 grams of THC wax and a 10-month-old child. The deputies found the drugs in a container of infant formula inside a diaper bag.
Shortly afterwards a 35-year-old woman arrived on scene to find transportation for the child. Deputies say that she also appeared to be under the influence of drugs. She was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs.
The man, who is from the Paw Paw area, was found to be on probation and was arrested. The woman, who is from Lawrence, was also taken to jail.
Deputies say that THC wax is a concentrated form of cannabis which is often extracted using butane. Only a small amount of wax is commonly needed to produce a high level of intoxication. Wax commonly contains up to 99% THC and between 5%–15% total cannabinoids (THC/CBN/CBD), several times more potent than the buds of the cannabis plant that are usually consumed.
