COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Federal and local authorities executed a search warrant at a cannabis club in east-central Colorado Springs Tuesday morning.
A Department of Justice spokesperson said no arrests were made during the raid. He didn't say what investigators were looking for.
The raid happened at the Lazy Lion in the 2500 block of E. Bijou Street, near E. Bijou Street and N. Parkside Drive.
According to its website, the Lazy Lion is a private, members only club. Membership is $5 per day for people 21 and older.
Cannabis clubs have been under scrutiny by Colorado Springs City Council. The businesses operate in a gray area: Customers pay a membership fee and are given marijuana. The city council is looking into the businesses before ruling on whether they can continue to operate.
Studio 64 owner Ambur Racek said she was concerned to hear about Tuesday's raid at Lazy Lion.
"We were a little worried. Is this going to happen to us? Are we next?" said Racek.
Racek hopes the bad publicity surrounding the Lazy Lion does not reflect poorly on all cannabis clubs. She said the businesses aren't given rules to follow, so they self-regulate. She said some are stricter than others.
"It (the raid) made me nervous because I think these clubs should be taken on a case-by-case basis because all of us choose to operate differently," said Racek.
According to news reports from 2011, Lazy Lion owner Andrew Poarch was arrested for receiving a shipment of marijuana to his home in Florida.
Also, according to news reports from 2010, Poarch said he accidentally shot and killed his friend Timothy Roach while he was trying to defend himself from robbers. Poarch and Roach were reportedly meeting the men to exchange marijuana. The two robbers were facing murder charges. Poarch later admitted to accidentally shooting Roach in the head while trying to defend himself against the attackers.
Poarch could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
According to his social media accounts, Poarch is a former soldier.

SleepAid's Notes: this is a pretty shady location. This has been coming for a long time. Also this story is about two months old, but is relevant to another story that will be following in a couple minutes.
