Best Light Setup For This Space?

The way this room is setup probably isn't the best for growing, but its the only option for my friend and its better than nothing. I don't have exact measurements at the moment because he's lacking a tape measurer (), but essentially the floor space consists of huge tiles, probably a little more than a square foot each. The room is completely rectangular , two tiles wide and six tiles long (2 ft by 6 ft basically).
Now, if that was all there is to it, it'd be great, but unfortunately there is a sink in the middle of the room that cuts into the width of the room by a foot, and at the end of the room in the middle there is a really low toilet seat with no back (its hanging on the wall closer to the ceiling). It is, of course, a really old bathroom.
Now, its not that bad because the side the sink is on won't be used as floor space for the grow at all, because my friend will need walking room, and the sink is close enough to the other side that from that point he can reach everything beyond that, and it should be simple enough to put a board down on top of that toilet seat in order to get all of that floor space.
That would basically be the floor space, each square being a square foot, but the group of 4 squares would be about a foot above the single row of squares.
Now, what would be the best way to light this? I'm thinking it would work better to have two smaller lights for each area, but what kind of wattages should my friend be looking at? HPS is probably what he would choose, but I understand that a Son Agro would be the best kind of bulb for it because it will pick up for the lack of blue light that a MH would provide during vegetative, right?
He'd be growing smaller plants, probably a kind of sea of green type deal. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

At 50W per square foot a single 600w would seem obvious but due to your strange shape two times 400w would be a better solution.

Would putting in two 400w lights be a significant enough increase in power usage to raise flags, do you think? My friend is only growing for personal use so it might not be necessary to use all of that space, maybe just start with one 400 watt over one of the areas (probably the group instead of the line to use the light better), and then expand if it isn't producing enough tokage....

Your fridge uses 2000W plus. Did the DEA come knocking when you plugged that in?
800W is fuck all.

No, but just start with one 400W if it's only for personal use.

I don't imagine they did, and there is no DEA here, but the question was regarding an initial increase after a consistent usage pattern exists, and usually the fridge is plugged in right when one moves in. Anyways, I just didn't know how significant the increase would be, but it sounds like it wouldn't be enough to register.

Yep, this makes the most sense, if we smoke more we can always make use of the additional space by adding another, and maybe I can use that first square foot after the group at the top as well from the first light.

Utility companies are in the business of selling power and more power, reporting increased usage is at odds with their best interests.

Makes sense to me. Just going through a mental checklist to make sure everything's safe. On another note, I read something about Son Agro bulbs for HPS, and that it is basically the best choice because it covers both the blue and the red spectrum so it'll work great for both vegetative and flowering stages. Is there truth to this? Does anyone here use Son Agro?

Just search for bulb prices, you'll find that the phillips son T range dont cost a lot more than inferior lamps.

The Son Agro bulbs can be used with a regular HPS ballast, then? I'm still wondering if he should go with a Metal Halide bulb for vegetative and HPS/Son Agro for flowering, with one of those interchangeable ballasts... then again, after one vegetative growth period it will be nothing but flowering cycle there on out for the most part, since it will be clones clones clones... well, he'll definitely grow out some new strains from seed too, but still... skip on the MH since it will be mostly clones, I think?

Son T's are just another HPS lamp, they'll work with any hps ballast. MH are a waste of time, they run hot and are no better in veg than a decent spectrum adjusted hps such as the son T's.

You don't really need different bulbs for veg and flowering. They veg fine under a flowering bulb.
I use the Philips SON-T Plus. They are cheap. I just bought a 400W bulb for 20 euro.

Sweet, everything is coming together as far as knowing what my friend will need.
Annom, how much did your light system cost, the ballast and reflector and whatnot?

My light system: simple 400W HPS bulb, transformer(ballast) and reflector for 80 euro ($120).

Sweet. Attainable.
Would something basic like that be available in any city throughout Europe? My friend hasn't done any comparison shopping yet.

It's available in every city in Holland. Not sure about the rest of Europe. It should be easy to find a cheap online grow shop in your country.
