Yo.
I have my 240v outlet here which I used to run with a 4 prong male adapter but with my new location I have the 3 prong welder out let and have to change out my 4 prong to the 3 prong male adapter .
Question is ..I have 4 wires a bare ground a black which I believe is called a hot ,a white which I believe is a nutural and a red which I believe is the other hot,now do I want to hook the hot black and hot red to each of the prongs and put the ground to the ground and just leave the nutural capped off or connect it to the ground with the ground?
Or am I missing something ?

True 240 doesn't need a neutral. You are right about black and red being the hots. Throwing a wire nut over the neutral is fine just make sure your hots are hooked up good. It'll work fine. Just be careful to turn off the circuit before you work on it.

He's wrong. You would bond the ground to the neutral in the equipment. In other words, open it up and put the white to the green with a jumper.
