PO'S PEYOTE THREAD . STARTED FROM SEED OCT. 5TH 2015

So I had great luck growing bridgsii from seed last fall, so this fall i planted 60-80 peyote seeds on the 5th of Oct.
I made the soil myself by mixing Dollar store black dirt (actually has lots of good stuff in it for cacti like humus, peat moss, perlite, limestone and it not soaked in fertilizer ( like miracle grow and other soils). This dollar store soil is only .50 a small bag too, so i stocked up. I mixed the soil with normal sand from behind my house to help with drainage and make it more suited for cacti.
After i made the soil i used boiling water to sterilize the dirt before i planted the seeds. Once the soil cooled down i sprinkled the seeds on top of the dirt and lightly packed it all down with a spoon.
I used a humidity dome thing for the grow to keep in the moisture (important when germinating cactus seeds). I also use a heating mat i picked up on ebay to keep the temp nice and warm for the babies. I also gave a cfl tube near them to give em so light, but not too much....
I was told more then once that peyote are super hard to germinate. So when i saw my first baby this afternoon, i knew they were happy in their home. By tonight ive counted 7 babies!!!
Ill update this thread as much as i can. hopefully ill be able to show you guys these lil guys grow up in the next months/years.

na peyote seeds are harder to come by. havent seen those on ebay. I have seen a few live ones on there but they are pricey and listed under the name "ariocarpus LW". You can find lots of live bridgesii, and pedros for cheap on there from the usa.
I found one canadian site that was selling peyote seeds for $1 each, but that seemed expensive. The ones i got were from a grower in the uk. I was following him on instagram and asked him to sell me 50 fot $10. he sent me a bunch of extras and some other cactus seeds only labed "LC". Not sure what they are.... guess ill find out.

I know they are dried out, but is it possible to nurse them back to health?

water those babies!!!!
I agree with sham, they look alright. A lil stretched and pissed off for sure. lol
Replanting them in individual pots will help keeping them moist for longer. If they are looking real rough you can always make cuttings. Im shocked how much a beating cacti can take and still live
My st tropez cuttings were sitting in the sun for 5 weeks with zero dirt and moisture. They were still alive and randomly growing roots. Pretty cool to see

still waiting on my 4 new torches and my mutant bridgesii to come in the mail.... i got there home all ready for them. So i hope they come soon
So far ive had 23 "peyote" sprout for me. I was getting a lil worred because they were looking like trich instead of LW's (tall and skinny)
i was thinking for a bit that he got his seeds mixed up and send me some trich's...
but after looking at pictures online it looks like these button shaped cactus DO start up tall and lanky...
example
example 2
example 3
im really hoping i get 50+ seedlings from those seeds. That would be a nice collection ... its more for the cool factor as it take 5-10 years for a peyote to mature.

Well after reading online it looks like my LW's are stretching on me. Looking at my set up i dont blame them. The CFL tube did not fit in the tub i had the dome in, so i had to put it on a weird diagonal way . The dome also had painters tape on the top (labels)
So i decided to give them a better home with more light coverage.
I found a huge rubber maid container and cutt 2 holes in it so i could slide the cfl through it so they could be super close to the light now (not too close tho)
New (ghetto) set up for the babies...
This should stop the stretching i hope

These are my 2 tubs.... first tub is for sprouting for seedlings (on heat mats)
Second tub is for babies
both are on timers too.
My tub for babies (got 2 of the biggest cfl's u can buy)
My bridesii i grew from seed (about a year old). Got over 30 at this size.
A few of My st tropez hybrids (one grew my first pup ever!) i was surprised how fast pups grow!
My newest addition (a mutant brigesii... aka penis cactus)
My bigger guys getting ready to hibernate over the winter. "big ben" got reported a week ago...
