Closet Grow Issues
    #743369 - 08/08/14 06:21 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

What's up people.

Planning my first closet grow/ first grow ever. I think my closet will work well except for a few issues. Experienced growers please let me know what you think.

It's 3'X3.5'X8 so size is ok.

First issue is the door. It's a fold in shutter door. See the picture.

I'm wondering if I should tape up the shutters with white posters on the inside of the shutter to prevent light from coming in. But then there will be no ventilation. Or maybe leave some open at the top?

Second thing, the walls are off white, I read it's better to have white walls. Not doing this, the room was just painted, so I'm just going to tape white posters from the dollar store on the walls. Sound good?

Then last thing is I have no sense of smell... weird I know. This closet is attached to the far end of the room opposite the entrance. The room is attached to a communal hall. I have two windows which are always open.

So the big problem is I'll never have anyway of knowing if it smells. I know I should do a carbon filter and get some Ona blocks. Any other precautions for this setup?

Here's more pics of the closet
Thanks in advance people

Since its a small space, I'm not sure whether it'd be worth duct installation.  or whether you are able to do things like that. Whether heat & ventilation become a real issue or not will depend on what kind of light you use and how cool it is. If you had an LED in there or something, its be ok.
if you have carpentry skills, you could build a different door or just like that one with something light proof.    Black plastic stapled inside maybe

Perfect place for a single 600w HPS or a few nice LED's.  There's a lot of opportunity here honestly.

I dont want to do duct installation honestly, I'm thinking of leaving just a small section of the shutter at the top open and somehow taping a small duct to the inside....  and then same on the bottom.

So would black plastic garbage bags work over the shutters?

Nice thanks guys,
I put up the garbage bag and started putting up white poster board. I'll put some pics up later.
I also started making the carbon filter.

One question, the filter is going to go against the fan, which is at the top of the shutter door, will being up against the shutter work adequately as a fan?

When you have a duct it's just a big hole, but I would think this will work...

As long as you don't have a light leak issue over it

If you can cover the walls with mylar.  Its pretty cheap and works well.  If you you can get a grow tent with similar dimensions.  It has mylar walls and built in heat management/security.

I would prefer flat white paint over mylar any day of the week.  Mylar doesn't stay super flat, and therefore causes hot spots.  It's way easier and cheaper to just paint a room flat white.  Even over mylar, if you aren't willing to paint, I would use panda film.

SunFilm by Sunlight Supply co. Is cheap...shit! Less than a year of use, there are cloudy & brown spots from moisture.
