What parts of your plants do you keep?
    #737106 - 06/21/14 02:27 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

When I first started growing I saved everything except for the main stalk. I did this for my first 5 plants or so, and made butter that was very potent. Then I read something that suggested the stems, fan leaves, and other leaves that weren't close to the buds were basically useless so lately Ive only been saving my trim/sugar leaves.

I havent tried making hash yet because all my friends love my cookies so Ive been using everything for butter, but once I get enough trim saved up (thinking at least a QP wet) Im going to give bubble hash a try.

Is there any reason to keep your stems/fan leaves etc. or am I doing the right thing by only saving my trim?

cannabis leaves are super healthy.  perfect for eating in salads or adding to meals or recipes.

I know a very hippie family that juice the leaves for health reasons.  They told me they use every part of the plant, im not sure what they use the stalk for tho (or if they do)

Your not doing anything wrong by getting rid of the fan leaves. I tested doing them without any bud shake and hardly anything came out of it at all. My results pretty much told me there is no need to keep fan leaves and stems.

I think when people make butane extracts they use the stems and everything

ah ok. I was just basing that on a video where the guy puts everything in the butane tube. there's gotta be a little bit of something good in the stems.

Nothing significant enough to risk extracting all the fats and lipids. Using fan leaves and stems for BHO is pointless IMO and will only lead to an inferior product. Sugar leaves, however, can make some excellent extracts.

Just realized you're that guy that posts in the dank thread on Shroomery.

Good to know though, I've been saving sugar leaves in a little jar until I have enough to do an extraction.  Anything I should know about storing them until then?

I'd say keep them in a bag in the freezer honestly. I'm sure just in a box in your grow room would be fine as well.

I only save my trim that has resin glands on it to make high quality extracts. Everything else gets trashed!
