As a food industry worker.

No the ice cube trays are always filled with hot water for one reason.

It makes it so theres no bubbles or anything and when they freeze you have nice clear ice cubes for the bar drinks.

Where as the ice in your soda will have white to it where you cant see through it.

Otherwise speaking, plain everyday water on its own and given that mineral content can be different based on location.

Lets say water that is distilled so it is only water. Freezes quickly when already cold.
Where as if I use hot water the process takes about 2 minutes longer, but provides ice i can see through. I cant see through most of it when it goes in cold. And even when using hot if i jiggle the tray too much putting it back in the freezer it will have one or two white colored ice cubes.
